hey,
does MyPS2 run games off USB?
hehe.

no it doesn't USBAdvance is the app that you are looking for![]()
i know about usbadvance and usbextreme but these don't work because of the macrovision fix. but why can't myps2 run games? i mean if it can run ELFs then why couldn't it run games? what's the difference?
hehe.

because myPS2 is not designed to run games, it doesn't have proper "stuff" inside its code...
The difference is that commercial games were never designed to be run from USB.Originally Posted by tichy
They were designed to be run from CD/DVD discs, and tricking a commercial game into thinking it is being run that way, when in fact it is not, is something that requires very devious CD/DVD emulation software. That is the reason why such programs as HDLoader (for IDE HDD) and USBExtreme (for USB) were developed. (NB: HDAdvance and USBAdvance are only ripoffs from those products, whereas ToxicOS is a legitimate continuation of the HDLoader project.)
MyPS2 was not designed for the purpose of running commercial games and therefore does not contain any such emulation software. The same obviously applies to all other normal homebrew projects. The only exception to this is a project which is intended to develop a new 'loader' for commercial games, but that still has a long way to go before it can be used by non-programmers.
As for the problem of using USBAdvance due to the macrovision fix, there are three main solutions.
1: If you have a true Matrix Infinity, simply turn off the Macrovision fix, and save those settings to the chip. But don't try this with a clone, as that chip may then DIE.
2: If you have a clone chip in an old-model fat PS2, then install the MC exploit, and use this to launch USBAdvance with mod-chip disabled. (Check clone or MI docs for the reset sequence needed to start with chip disabled.) Just in case you need to test other stuff too with mod-chip disabled, you should consider launching uLaunchELF first, and then use that to choose what else to start, including USBAdvance of course.
3: If you have a clone chip in a new-model slim PS2, then buy Swap Magic 3.6, and boot that disc with mod-chip disabled (as above), and let Swap Magic start USBAdvance for you (it can start ELFs from a USB storage unit). Again, it might be a good idea to start a generic launcher (like uLaunchELF) instead, so you can test other stuff too with mod-chip disabled.
For cases 2 and 3 above, the Macrovision fix will no longer apply because when starting with mod-chip disabled, all its normal 'fixes' are disabled. And if you have a clone that doesn't allow you to start with chip disabled, then just forget about it, or buy a new mod...

thanks guys. I know a bit about programming(i've writing programs in vb.net for 4 years), and i know a little about c++ and c. Can we possibly get the source code for usbextreme and usbadvance? i mean are they legally distributing it? thx
hehe.

you can't get the source code cause its not distributed...
so what should i have to develop a program that does run games off the usb hdd? i already have the ps2sdk so what do i need else?
hehe.
