myps2 hdd auto boot? –
Ok I seriously JUST started using myps2, the ps2hdd, and a modchip YESTERDAY and i've been digging and digging looking for something. If it's already been addressed and you can link me to an already existing thread I may have lookied over or some website or help me you'll be my hero(es)!!
My boyfriend installed some HDDLoader progam onto my harddrive last night after he put my mod in for me. I have a DMS4Lite by the way. It's set it up so that when you hold start during PS2 powerup it loads the hdd (or you can set it to auto in the chip settings) which in turn loads this worthless loader (only loads ps2 games no homebrew!?). I formatted the drive and took out the loader and set up partitions of my own and put some applications on but I have to use boot from CD just to load anything.
I was wondering if there is a way that I can setup myps2 to boot automatically when the ps2 boots to the hdd. Sort of like a ps2 OS replacement? If so where do I put the myps2 programs and what do I edit the config too? I keep reading tutorials but I must be super blonde because I don't understand them. I'm really really new at this.
I'd appreciate any help! <3 Thanks!
Using a mod chip you have to put the files to launch in the boot partion, with the name BOOT.ELF I believe. Someone with a mod chip can probably answer it better. I recommend using ULaunchELF as a loader though, as its alot more flexible and can boot many apps.
Unfortunately I've already tried that to no avail. I put the myps2.elf into the _boot partition renamed boot.elf and even edited the system.cnf file to direct it to "boot.elf" in hdd0:_boot. No luck.

the (__) indicates a system partition, myps2 has been varified as not working launching from dev2 (__boot/boot.elf). it does however work fine from the memory card using dev1 (BOOT/BOOT.ELF) or even a usb drive. personnally I launch myps2 from the hdd using uLaunchELF. the system.cnf you mentioned has nothing to do with dev launching and only is used when booting directly from disc.
That really sucks but thanks. I tried and tried and got so frustrated becaues it didn't make any sense at all. Does anything load from the _boot partition? I tried uLaunch but I didn't really care for it. Somehow I preferred Launch.ELF better. Don't ask me why. Thanks for the help though!
almost any program will boot from dev2 (__boot/boot.elf), myps2 v1.0+ is the exception since unlike other elf (execution files) files myps2 is dependent on a series of xml & png files for launch. ntba2 the author of myps2 has yet to eliminate bugs since v1.0-1.2 and the introduction of this dependent structure of the program; in time perhaps the dev2 issue will be addressed and fixed
