I'm afraid you've completely misunderstood the purpose of that brightness control.

It does not control the general brightness of the screen at all, and never has. It's related only to the rendering of a JPG skin file, and nothing else. So it has no influence at all on the 'brightness' of the various colour settings in the top section of the "Screen Settings..." menu. Those colours can only be set by direct editing of their RGB values.

So to change the 'brightness' of the background colour without any skin file, simply edit the RGB values of 'Color1' also described as 'Backgr' in that menu. Its RGB components form the first column of editable numbers in the colour editing section of this menu.

If you use 00 for its three components you get the darkest black, while FF gives the purest white, which you asked for. Personally I find that setting quite unpleasant though, nearly blinding, which is why I lowered the default setting to a paler gray nuance. But naturally the overall effect also depends on the characteristics and settings of your TV/Monitor too. In any case, you can easily edit the setting yourself to suit your own preferences.

    Best regards: dlanor
