Trying to upgrade from 4.12 to 4.12a but not having any luck.

I have the boot.elf and the compressed boot.elf. If i boot the up from within ULE it loads 4.12a no problem but i can't seem to get it to work from the initial startup, i want it to go directly into 4.12a when i boot my ps2, how cani do this?

Thinking about it when ULE starts up it says loading hdd modules, does this mean it is loading ULE from the HDD rather than the MC?
    Fat PS2 with Network Adapter - 120GB Maxtor HDD - Kingston 512Mb USB Key - Retail HDA 3.0 (HDL 0.8b ISO) - Multi app ISO (ULE v4.12 & HDL 0.8b) - SMS V 2.1

I'm not familiar with the expression "boot the up".
Presumably you mean one of the ELFs, but I have no idea which.
(Not that it should matter. They should both work the same.)

    from within ULE
You can't really "boot" anything from inside uLE (or any other normal program launcher). You can launch the ELFs, but that is not the same thing as booting.

For all normal uLE upgrades you simply copy the new elf into the same location and under the same name as the old ELF, thus replacing the old one with the new.

However, there may well be some complications with v4.12a, since that is a beta version provided by the user 'suloku'. That version has been replaced by v4.12c which I compiled and released a bit later. Note that this too is a beta with some known issues. (Read post #4303 on page 173 of the main uLE thread, which is where I made that release.)

Only if you launch uLE from HDD, which you should be aware of yourself. But it can also mean that some uLE skin file resides on HDD, so that the HDD driver modules are needed to load that. Again, this is something you must keep track of yourself, as I have no idea how you have configured your uLE installation.

Note that the last 'proper' release is still v4.12, and all later versions are beta testing versions. The main change in those versions are to include the dual skin implementation of suloku which allows GUI-like buttons to be displayed on the main menu screen. But there are also drawbacks of using this method, such as having to reload the skin files whenever switching between the main menu and any other menu. And for the network settings menu that switch is still missing... This skin reloading only happens when you actually have both skins configured though. If you only use the old skin method, then the new versions behave just like the old ones in that regard.

The next 'stable' version will be v4.13, so if you're not really interested in beta testing, that is the one you should wait for.

    Best regards: dlanor
