Nothing definite yet, though the main suspect is obviously the IOP module "chkesr", which is what allows the "PS2Disc" command to recognize ESR-patched discs and boot them correctly through ESR (instead of treating them as DVD-Video, which they appear to be).

The problem appeared after adding that module, and it is directly involved with CDVD access and the 'Disc Control' operations of uLE.

But right now it is the FTP server problem with the new MC modules that is the main focus of attention, both for myself and jimmikaelkael (who developed these new MC modules).

So v4.30 can be considered the most stable at the moment since it doesn't support multiple usb devices, chkesr and the new mc modules that allow renaming.

One might say that, though I want to emphasize that I myself have no problems with the USB drivers at present. And these were not in any way modified for the most recent beta v4.39z.

But unfortunately v4.31, being the last version not to use chkesr, had a serious USB bug that was fixed in v4.32, being the version where chkesr was added.

So of the versions without chkesr v4.30 is the best one available.
But personally I still prefer using v4.39z despite the few known issues with it.

For most purposes it is, yes.

But it too has exactly the same chkesr module and USB modules as v4.39z, so it must have a share of any problems related to those modules too. It is only the MC modules that are new to the latest beta v4.39z.

hello guys. can someone tell me where to get newest version of ulaunchelf 4.39 in DVD iso form? Or, I need to know what to do with the zip that contains the src files and what not, and how can I turn that into an iso.

I need the DVD ISO one because my PS2 has problems reading CDRs (and my swapmagic cd too).

Maybe you should install FMCB after that you don't need to use DVD images of uLE.
For installing and other homebrew launches you can use the DVD image of uLE 4.38 which is attached to the first post of this thread.

Once installed the noobie package of FMCB you can use uLE to update any elf on MC.

    Best regards

Wow. Quick response, which I wasn't expecting. Thanks.

Well the thing is, I had a problem. I was using the following method to install FMCB (media player method thingy in ARMAX)

    http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmcb/en_armax.htm

But problem was that I couldn't get it to read from my thumbdrive for some reason so I could NOT install FMCB.

So I got impatient and decided to just burn 4.38 version to DVD and boot it with my Swapmagic.

I will see if I can upgrade to 4.39 now to see what happens. Thanks a lot.

I too recommend SanDisk drives, as I have used several different ones of various sizes (1*2GB, 1*4GB, 1*8GB, 2*16GB). Some of them require removal of the "u3" storage software first (special partition usage), using a tool downloaded from SanDisk. But after such removal every one of these drives has worked perfectly with EVERY EXISTING PS2 DRIVER. This even includes the old drivers of USBAdvance.

That functionality is in direct contrast to brands such as Kingston which has had a 50% average in two ways:

Each drive type only worked with appx 50% of most older drivers
Appx 50% of their drives worked with any particular older driver
So for using a Kingston drive with an old driver, it's a toss-up whether it'll work

That percentage has improved a lot for the latest drivers, but their drives must still be considered less reliable for PS2 use than many others.

    Best regards: dlanor
