Would it be possible to turn off the timeout when selecting the PS2Net option? I've occasionally forgotten to hit a button to disable it while in a hurry, and I'd hate for it to auto-boot HDL (or anything for that matter) after mounting a partition. Other than that one little thing, I find it excellent to work with. I'm glad that it is being further developed. Keep up the good work.

A PS2 has many processors. One is called IOP which is short for "Input/Output Processor", and as the name implies it is used for the I/O devices of the PS2. Device drivers are loaded into the memory of that processor as/when needed.
Since the PS2 has no real Operating System, each program has to load its own drivers. For games they are usually stored in separate files on the disc, the so-called IRX modules. Sometimes those modules are contained in the main program file though, a method very popular with homebrew programs, as only a single file is needed then.
The problem with this system is that a program starting up may need different modules from the ones used by the program that started it. The 'IOP reset' is a system function to throw away all currently active IOP modules, releasing all their resources, so that a program can start fresh, loading the modules it needs.
However, while this is very useful for some programs (eg: LaunchELF), there are limits to how well it works. HDLoader, for example, partially circumvents the 'IOP reset', so that it seems impossible to get the PS2 back to 'clean' startup conditions. (It needs to do that so as to enforce its CD/DVD emulation with games that also use 'IOP reset'.)

a shame, i was looking forward to your ddr mod
<G> i guess he didnt realise your status heh?

ddrfreak is our old friend and new ps2hd cronie omegatron now posting as pac-man. Ive known it for a bit but only banned him recently at the request of our own members in the drama central forum. They still continue to drudge up lies and nonsense at their page but we have opted to ignore the morons. Look just how much is getting done these days now while they have done absolutely nothing.
You can add ulaunchelf just about anywhere. Its own icon would go well in a situation like that.
The one for the system info/exploit is just one of many of them in the bios (sce_8 i think) You can change your sys file to reflect any icon you want, including the ones in the bios.
The obvious downside is the size of the icon. People should be buying max memory cards these days ayways. The 32mb is 4 times bigger than your average card and costs slightly less than 2 official cards. The 64 can hold just about every ps2 homebrew app imaginable.

E P / dlanor, how do you guys feel about putting the source in csv/svn somewhere (Sourceforge, ps2dev, where-ever) ?
The reason I ask is I just udated my source to include the "l" release and I just accidentally overwrote the changes I'd made for future consideration. Doh ! Doh ! Doh ! Doh ! Doh ! Doh ! Doh ! Doh ! Doh ! Doh ! Doh ! Doh ! Doh ! Doh !
At least I hadn't done much, but I still feel very very silly.

Yeah, I thought about this too. Unfortunately the code isn't really ours so I don't think we have much ground to stand on. I would love to see it over at ps2dev but the original author would have to be the one to sign it over.

Sorry to hear that. Sometimes you can never be to careful.

It's OK, it wasn't the first time and I doubt it will be the last. I just needed to whine about it for a minute.
The good news is I've now rewritten what I've done so far in a much nicer way
With regard the original author, I guess what you need is a ps2-scene'r who speaks Japanese and doesn't mind contacting the original author to ask him to release it to you (well everyone) under the GPL. I'm write in thinking the original author has made some comment on his website that you have his blessing hasn't he ?

Great.

Yeah you're right. The author has been working mostly on RIN the psp GB/GBC Emulator. Of course, I based the whole "blessing" thing off a translation. The author said something to the effect that the unofficial version of LaunchELF is recommended over the original.
edit:
OK, I think I just figured out another fix for ps2ftpd. That issue where read only mc saves showed up as files instead of folders. Well I think I may have a workaround for that now too.

well in many instances releasing source without a specific licence is generally considered public domain. At least it does these days.
