Hello, folks, new guy here. I'm planning to install Free MC Boot + uLaunchElf to a memory card of mine to be able to copy PS1 saves to a USB thumb drive (1GB Kingston Datatraveler, formatted to FAT32 and has succesfully been used with Datel's Max Drive in the past). However, I've come across some disturbing information which states that Sony, in their great wisdom, has blocked all version 13 and later slim PS2s from accessing all non-Sony USB devices. Now my question is this: Is this something I should be worried about when using uLaunchElf for the purpose of copying savedata, seeing as how this process calls for the ability to access my aforementioned USB mass storage device? The PS2 I personally own is a series SCPH-77004 European slim, which if I'm not mistaken, makes it a version 15.

Is uLaunchElf barred from accessing the USB ports of later slim PS2s? That's the question.

Sorry to say you have been misinformed. There are issues with some USB devices when using any PS2 console with some software apps, homebrew and commercial alike.

But Sony blocking any access for USB devices not made by Sony is complete crap. I have a V16 NTSC and have no issues what so ever with my USB sticks and none of them are Sony products.

Hope this help clear that up for you. Oh and Kingston Brand USB sticks are known to be incompatible with many PS2 consoles and apps. So you might want to buy a Lexar or San Disk brands, as they are reported as the most compatible USB sticks.
    PS2 Consoles:
    SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
    SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
    SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
    SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

Well this is good news. Anybody else with a v13 or later slim PS2 able to tell me about their experiences?

Hmm, well, my Max Drive certainly never complained about my Kingston. But it did complain about my Sandisk Cruzer Mini. I'll just have to see.

Say, is Swap Magic 3.8 Coder capable of reading from Kingstons?

I used my San Disk Mini Cruiser with SwapMagic just fine.

As for the Kingston brand i dont know, not all of them are incompatible, but you might find it may not work in some apps, so this would be the reason.

Yep, i too have AR Max's Max Drive, came with 2 mini discs {PC & PS2} and a 16MB USB flash drive. I have had some issues with the 16MB MaxDrive with a few apps, but for the most part its compatible.
