ULE on a budget. –
Hi, after two days and many hours and coasters, I decided to ask for some help. I've been trying to launch uLaunchElf for the purposes of installing Free McBoot. I can't really afford to buy anything new for this project.
I tried tutorials made for the disk swap trick and 007 Agent Under Fire, but since I don't have that title, I used Madden 07 since some people reported success with replacing the NTGUI ELF with uncompressed BOOT ELF.
I have gotten pretty fast at swapping the disk with the case open. But when I get to the part where I should be seeing the uLaunchElf menu, I get a red screen telling me to insert a Playstation formatted disk.
I have tried different media and different burn speeds. I have tried replacing different elf files from different game and demo disks. I either get the red 'insert a Playstation formatted disk' message, or the game hangs on a black screen.
It seems like I should be able to just copy the necessary files to the HD using a PC and WinHiip, but I don't see any instructions online about how to do that without using an original HDloader or HDAdvance disk.
I do not have: Magic Swap, Game Shark, a mod chip, HDLoader or HDAdvance or 007 Agent Under Fire.
I do have:
A fat PS2 SCPH-39001 console
Official PS2 Network adapter
40GB Sony Hard Drive
1 SONY 8Gb PS2 memory card.
1 off brand 8Gb PS2 memory card.
1 SONY Playstation one memory card.
About a dozen original PS2 Games
About a dozen original Playstation one games.
Many USB flash drives up to 16GB
Several Desktop PC's with DVD burners running Windows 98se - Windows 7
Some blank Memorex DVD-R 16x media
Some blank Sony DVD-RW 2x media
15+ years of computer enthusiast experience
I was hoping someone might have some suggestions for my circumstances.
I suppose I can purchase a used 007 Agent Under Fire disk, but I'm unemployed and broke.
Don't know when I'll have extra cash to mail away for that.
Thanx in advance.

recently SP193 made a proof of concept tool for ps2 that installs a customized MBR to ps2hdd, and makes it boot into OPL, even if you have no memcards connected to ps2.
you could try asking him either for MBR dump (so you could install that on pc), or for a pc version of that program (it's written for PS2 atm).
that might be a way to do it without purchasing new hardware/discs.
Thank you yoshi314. I'll see what I can find out.
