The usbd.irx from Gran Turismo 4 is v1.4.0. This version does not work with uLE. The "external" $ony versions of usbd.irx that do work are the ones with version number below 0.17.0. These are from much older games than GT4.
As for exactly where/when (& why) uLE freezes when a certain non-compatible usbd.irx us used, I can't say (dlanor can probably) but it doesn't matter much since there's just no point in using such a driver.
We have not been able to see any difference or improvement in any way by using $ony usbd.irx 0.17.0 compared to the built-in default, so you may just as well ignore the whole thing. Use the uLE default and all will be well.
