Alright so basically, all i want to do is get a saved game of Socom U.S Navy Seals: Combined Assualt so i can have the R44M +all the other goodies available.
I'm terrible at the campaign and no one on coop will help me, so I came to learn about this.

So far i have a USB, a blank Sony CD-R 700mb disk, Ulaunch v 4.18.iso and i've already prepared the saved game file with the PS2 Builder program.
I wrote the file from this thread to a cd and my PS2 doesn't read it.

can some one help me out here?

Actually I don't think anyone can help you directly, with so little information as you give about your setup. You don't even mention whether you have a fat PS2 or a slim PStwo, nor do you say anything about having a modchip or softmod (not to mention what kind).

I hope you're at least aware that an unmodded PS2 can not launch burned discs at all (except by 'discswapping' methods which are harmful both for the console and for the discs used).

Some kind of 'mod', at the very least a softmod of some kind, is required to make the console able to boot any burned discs. And 'softmods' can only do the trick for specially patched DVD-R discs, not for CD-R discs. But that is not really a problem, as a good softmod, like FMCB available in the FreeVAST forum on this site, offers many other ways of running homebrew software like uLaunchELF (aka: uLE). With FMCB uLE is normally installed to the memory card, together with the softmod boot files. And once you have uLE running it is easy to copy stuff back and forth between PC and PS2, either using a USB device or by direct LAN access.

You are on the right track in wanting to use uLE for the gamesave management, but from what you said I have no clue as to whether or not your console is capable of booting uLaunchELF as-is, or any other homebrew programs (as required to install a softmod to your MC).

    Best regards: dlanor

I was unaware that it was that complex to move a saved game from pc to ps2.
I have a Slim PS2 and no, my PS2 is not modified, i don't have a modchip or anything, i'm just starting basically.
I have heard of disk swapping but, i was afraid of damaging my system.

so do i need to buy/make a modchip or is there anyway other way i can transfer a saved game?

For an 'out of the box" console, it isnt possible to move a game save from the PC to the PS2 as Sony didnt provide a way to do this.

The only way to move a save from PC to PS2 is with some help:

1-Retail Game Cheat discs {Cdoebreaker, AR Max, GameShark, etc} allow for save transfer via a USB stick and provide online sites to get these saves you can share with others. Burned copies wont work without a method to make the console read them. {modchips, softmod such as Free McBoot} Sony has only allowed the console to read burned music discs an DVD movie discs without the need for special applications.

2-By using homebrew applications, such as uLaunchELF {as dlanor has explained} which can be run once an exploit has been installed to your MC, such as Free McBoot. But this also requires a special method to get the installation on the MC in the first place, so this is why its so complicated to simply move a save from PC to PS2.

Your best solution is to just buy a Retail Cheat disc, since you would pretty much need to use one to install an exploit anyway, unless you have a friend with a modchip and can run a burned disc with it....or you want to buy one .
    PS2 Consoles:
    SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
    SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
    SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
    SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

I am interested in homebrew (use to do it for my DS before the screen broke)
so i guess i'll just buy a codebreaker but, if i want to do homebrew as well,
i do need a modchip, whats a good modchip? or how does that whole thing work because, i'm comparing it all to ds, you had to buy a cart. and work with the the files via usb &etc

Buying the cheat disc is the quickest way to move saves from PC to PS2, but be sure it offers that as an option before you buy it, as there are still older versions available and some stores try pushing the old inventory out, mixed with the new .

You dont really NEED a modchip anymore, but they are still useful if you dont want to use the softmod. Since your a slim user, you might be interested in Free McBoot and the newest version was just released.

Go here to the FreeVAST forum and read up on it, then decide whats best for your needs.....a software mod or a Modchip.

I cant really say whats the best thing for you to do, as i have both the softmod and modchips in several consoles and i find them all equally useful for many of the same things, but each has its own strong point for various tasks.

Before you do that, check what PStwo model you have. CodeBreaker is not able to access USB devices on slim PStwo models v14 or newer. It does work fine on the fat models as well as the slim v12 and v13. You can easily check your model by reading the Sony product code which is clearly marked on a label on the underside of the console.

If that code is SCPH-7500x or larger (where x is your region digit) then you are screwed, just like I was with my SCPH-77004 (which is a european v15)

but, if i want to do homebrew as well,

Like JNABK said there are good points as well as drawbacks with both modchips and softmods. The new softmod FMCB (== Free McBoot, earlier called FreeVAST) offers almost the same strengths as a real modchip, especially when used with the ESR program (another freeware) which allows patched backup games on DVD-R discs to be used on an unmodded console.

But you'll need some way of starting homebrew on a PS2/PStwo of your region to be able to install FMCB on your memory card. Using that card can then allow any PS2/PStwo console of the same region to boot homebrew, without any modification to that console or having to use any special discs (like the old softmods required).

    Best regards: dlanor
