You might have a bad disc.

    Does the CD-ROM version work?
If it does, then you should probably return the disc set for a replacement.

Unless, it is your console's laser that is weak.

The sensor-block has nothing to do to boot the DVD.....

    I hope you have a retail-DVD and not a DL-version......

    SCPH-90004 version, Date: 8c.

I've tried both cd and dvd disks, still nothing. Maybe my ps2 is too new?

No. There is no way for the PS2 to block out the Swapmagic discs, unless the discs were blacklisted (Which was never done so far).

If the Swapmagic disc (Regardless of the disc type) was inserted into the console and the disc does not boot successfully, it probably means that it is bad.

Yes, Swapmagic discs are known to go bad... unlike those pressed discs that you get from Sony.

Just to remember: The Swap Magic region must match with PS2's region. For exemple, your PS2 is PAL (90004) then the S.M must be PAL version too.

he did not ask the console version although that does help..
is the swapmagic disk a real one or one you have burnt yourself from a download?
it has to be a real disk to work. no sensor mods are required for a real swapmagic disk.
