Spanish & Catalan Translation for ule 4.01

Hi all, I've done an spanish translation based on the english lang file.

Since ñ is not supported I'm using "ny" instead of it. (spanish one)
Since ç is not supported I'm using "c" instead of it. (catalan one)

Edit: thanks to Dlanor, these characters now work.

I've corrected some mistakes, the new file is upload.

And I've noticed that when in the jpgviewer the "Path" text can't be changed, or at least I couldn't.

Correct. That text still uses absolute text constants, like this:
sprintf(msg0, "Jpg Viewer Path: %s", path);

I'll change it to:
sprintf(msg0, "%s %s: %s", LNG(Jpg_Viewer), LNG(Path), path);

And then the translation will alredy be done, as the strings referred to by that line already exist in the LNG.

Man, I down't know how do you do, but you ever post a minute before I update the file.

This time there are only 3 changes, I'll tell ya so you don't have to test the hole thing.

"Cerrar Tcl." changed to "Cerrar teclado"

"PAGINA ARRIBA" changed to "PAG ARRIBA"
"PAGINA ABAJO" changed to "PAG ABAJO"

This is beacause the first ones din'd fit well in the text editor keyboard screen.

In fact I seldom test an entire LNG visually. I don't really have to, because any major syntax faults in the file format (bad quoting etc) would be caught by the loading parser, so you would notice it before even passing the file here, and since I don't know all languages I have no way of judging whether the translations are correct or not. (With a few exceptions for languages I do know.)

Normally I just load the LNG and test its main menu and the FileBrowser, and check the contents of the MISC device. But that's all I can do for a language I don't understand.

The 'tooltips' are usually the toughest to translate well, as some of them are 'crowded' even in english. And the 'keyboard' is also critical, because it has such an inflexible format. Each word or phrase has to fit in a precise 'box'. And the problem gets worse because most languages are less brief than english, using lots more letters for similar words.

Just compare "PAGE" to "PAGINA", and we see a 50% increase...
So some brutal abbreviations may well be needed for these cases.

Ok, catalan translation uploaded and final corrections to the spanish file.

The PAGINA one was an mistake of mine, I wrote PAGIGANA instead of PAGINA, now it fits ok (it's the maximum it is able without exiting the box)

Ok, I've downloaded these files and am ready to test and then repost them in the release thread. However, having read your comments added to your first post, I'm obliged to point out that recent versions of uLE do support the 'missing' characters you mentioned. (Current version is v4.01)

'Ñ'==0xD1, 'ñ'==0xF1, 'Ç'==0xC7, 'ç'==0xE7, so this is just as in a PC font.

Of course, those characters don't look so good in non-interlaced TV modes, but even then they are still recognizable. So perhaps you want to edit these LNG files a bit more, to use those characters too. Right ?

EDIT: "ñ" shows in the file name, but it isn't in the R1 menu. Also "ç" isn't recognized in the place explained below.

It's strange, I tried first with 4.01 and they weren't recognized, anyway I have the files with the correct characters, so i'm uploading them in the first post so you can test them.

You can find the "ñ" in "tamaño" (size) and you can find the "ç" in the very first configuration screen, in the "show full elf launch path" line.

Also, could you please change the tilte of the thread to add "Spanish&Catalan Translation for ule 4.01"?

I have found these characters in both files and inspected them with a hex editor, only to find that you've used UTF-8 encoding, which uses 2 bytes for each of those special characters. That is not supported by uLE, which can only use a single ascii byte per character.

So while I told you earlier that 'ñ' should use the byte code 0xF1, the 'ñ' characters in your LNG file instead uses two byte codes, 0xC3 0xB1.

You need to convert these files from UTF-8 to normal ascii (Latin-1 charset), to match the font and character support of uLE.

Edit:
A smart editor like UltraEdit can do such conversion, but since I don't know these languages I'm reluctant to do it, as I can't check the results properly. Someone with full knowledge of the languages should do it.
