I saw the great thread going on about the FMCB installer skin and thought about giving uLaunchELF a facelift on my MC... So I came up with these two... One for the start and one for gui... I know it is nothing new nor innovative, just wanted to share...

I wouldn't mind moving them into the regular skin thread, except for one thing that makes me want to keep them separate while we discuss it, and that is the legal position.

You are using registered Sony trademarks and logotypes in those images, in a context we know that Sony disapproves of, which probably makes the whole thing illegal. From a legal standpoint it would be better to play around with the logos a bit, so they no longer match exactly what Sony has registered. Simple things like changing "Sony" to "Sonny"/"Zony" and adding some indent line to the Playstation symbol should make a big difference legality-wise.

I'm leaving the pictures intact for the moment, but I expect you to either remove them or update them to legal versions shortly. Unless you can convince me that they really are legal as-is of course (but that will take some doing ).

It shouldnt be any type of legal issue as he isnt infringing upon the trademarks, but only displaying an image of a Sony product, which is perfectly legal.


The image of Sony Memory Card is not a trademark. The trademarks are on the MC, but thats where they are supposed to be.

Nothing illegal there buddy... And I do not see you complaining about the ones already in that thread when they show controllers and consoles.... Justice for all my friend not just to some...

Here's an example of one of them (found it by just reading the thread from the beginning)... Using "PS2" logo at the top left corner that logo was placed there... Post #5 the very first picture...

In my case like JNABK said I'm using pictures of products not logos or any copyrighted material... Practically I'm giving them a free ad...

No doing at all actually piece of cake... I did not put the logo there, sony did...

I just did a little research and found its not any type of infringement of the trademarks since they arent used for the purpose of selling something:

According to this, its not illegal or even an issue to use trademarks in skins or webpages. So basically, every time someone uses a trademark in their skins, web site or forums, its an advertisement to the company that trademarked it ......think they will be upset by that?
