Unfortunately I've done the opposite...:(
I now have 2 PS2s, one of which is my old v7 with DMS4pro and ToxicOS, and another bought second-hand which is an unmodified v10 that I normally use an exploit for booting. But I do have exploit files in the MCs of the v7 as well, for experimental purposes“, and to keep things simple I use the same set of trigger IDs on both consoles.Quote:
I cant disable my modchip to test it due to previously discussed incidents...
So I made a CD-R copy of one of those exploit trigger discs and tried it with both of my PS2 units. As expected this booted fine on the v7 with DMS4pro, but failed completely on the unmodified v10, resulting in the usual red screen for a rejected disc.
It's possible that it might work if you use SwapMagic methods, but I'm not prepared to go that far just to test it. Such a method would be absurd anyway, as the SwapMagic discs can launch homebrews directly from MC, making use of a PS1 backup to boot the exploit redundant.
This matches my guess about 'SwapMagic' above, but if hes making a bootloader for unmodified PS2s, then how the heck does he expect that loader to be useable BEFORE having booted any homebrew disc ?Quote:
I read it in a post where this guy was trying to make a cogswap like loader to boot psx backups on a ps2. He said he found that psx backups triggered the exploit..
The only ways to do that on an unmodified console is to have either a pressed disc, or a Magicgate encrypted launch file on MC. And both are 'out of reach' of the normal homebrewer...
And even if he could make such a loader boot on an unmodified PS2, then why not make it able to launch whatever homebrew he pleases directly from MC, instead of using the indirect method of triggering the exploit ?!?

Is there a way to do it with a v7, or am I out lof luck?
when i first read about the exploit my v9 had a messiah 3.2, so i could run psx backups, made my exploit and tried with silent hill, gran turismo 2, need for speed porsche unleashed, and dragon ball gt final bout, all of those burned in verbatim cd-r, and directly to the uLE with no probs
That is to be expected with a mod-chip. But the question here is whether or not a CD-R copy of a PS1 disc can trigger the exploit on a completely unmodified PS2.
My tests on a v10 showed that it doesn't work there, but JNABK seems to have confirmed that it works on a v9, although he's a little terse on details.

Sorry for lack of details, i had assumed it was well known. Ive tested this in a V4,V5 & the V9 consoles:
Start ule {disc control on} , at the main menu swap in the backup {without ejecting}, goto the FileBrowser and select MISC, then PS2Browser. The backup is shown as a PS1 disc and it will boot when you press the X button.
In the V4 and V5 consoles, the consoles froze at the PSX logo screen, just after you hear that 'ringing' sound.
But the V9 continues and the game is playable.:D tested with twisted Metal 2
Oh and all these consoles were unmodded at the time of testing. The V9 is on its way to getting a CC 2.0 SLE. :) :)
