Nice feature: Auto disc detection
Nice feature: Auto disc detection –

The timeout feature is just great! If you just turn on your console, after the timeout ULF will boot your default prog (hdl, anyone?).
However, what would be almost perfect, would be an option to, boot from a regular cd/dvd (normal boot) if one is present, and if not, just go to the default selected option.
Since not all games are hdl compatible, some must still be played from dvd. And currently, if your default action is PS2 Disc, and no disc is there, nothing will load. However, is your option is boot, say hdl, and a disc is there, then the disc will be ignored.
Just an idea, doesnt seem that complicated.
Oh, btw, ULF (Unofficial LaunchELF) IS awesome, keep up the good work!

In other words: You want the present single-action default launch to become a dual-action operation, starting with a disc check, then branching either to launch any disc found, or to launch a specified ELF (here HDL).
That would constitute a brand new launch method, the first one added since we made such possible in v3.41t, which in itself motivates me a little bit. However, there are complications here too. The suggested usage is not at all what I consider normal even for HDL booting, and certainly not for normal homebrew use. I'll need to think about this one a bit longer.
In any case, I also need to modify the auto-launcher, so that user actions will break the auto-launch sequence permanently, and not just temporarily, as is the case now. (At present the timeout will restart in some cases.) When I do that it will also be a good time to reconsider your suggestion.

Correct, and that command needs to remain that way, as it is intended only as a manual command. If for any reason it fails, it must return to the LaunchELF menu, nothing else.

Not entirely ignored, as it is accessible from some of the programs you may launch from HDL, such as SMS or SNES-station. That is just one of the ways in which physical discs can be used with HDL.
Another way, which I use myself, is to launch CodeBreaker as a normal ELF from hdd, and then let it launch HDL from a CD that I normally keep in the tray, so I can start some games with cheats active. Having that CD in the tray like I normally do, even when starting ELFs elsewhere, means that your suggestion would never be acceptable as a replacement for current launch methods. If implemented at all, it must be in addition to those.

No, it would be quite similar to the current PS2Disc launch, except that it would branch to loading a selected ELF if/when disc loading fails.

Thanks for those sentiments, but I think we need to use a different abbreviation for the program. By pure coincidence "Ulf" happens to be one of my own names, and this is not really just my own project you know...
(My full name is "Ulf Ronald Andersson", but I'm normally called Ronald.)

Yes, even I have reconsidered it a bit. It would only be useful for people that can boot directly from the mc, and usually dont have any disc on the tray. This even excludes me, because my modchip is probably a fake, and cant be configured to boot directly from mc, and so i keep my uELF launcher on a cd that spends most of its time on the tray). So don't waste too much time on the idea.

Well there's no need to be that modest. After all, it wasnt you that suggested the abbreviation. And i didn't know your name was Ulf.
Hmm, i think i'll make a thread to let people voice their opinions about an "official" abbreviation (since Unofficial Launch Elf is a rather lengthy name). With your approval, of course.
Regards.

For example, starting PS2Net should disable the timeout. It is unlikely that a user would ever manually turn on the FTP server and then want continue with whatever he/she set to autolaunch.
