Ok.....I Have a old fat ps2....SCPH-39001....Serial FU1892331
NTSC U/C And i plan on buying a modchip but not yet because
i want to learn more about it first.
i have a max16mb card and a working Expliot.
im using SHOCKWAVE ASSAULT_SLUS_001.37_301MB_as my Expliot loader.
and the unofficial build of UlaunchELF V4.08
so far i can run PGEN from my USB cruzer micro..works great
with the knife trick i can run snes station from cd....but its slow and crashes after about 15 minutes of play
ok now i have been into emulation since 1997 or so.
and all i really do is clean up mame for my personal builds
I cant makeup my own code because i suck
but you guys kickass...and now i really can use some help.
ive been trying to boot a psx copy & ps2 copy for 5 days now>>
if i can run elf's from cd..why cant i run the IMBNES.exe!
im sure that the ****ers are burned correct...cdgenPS2_3.0__Alcohol 120%
can i run backups_ps2,psx,exe_with only a Expliot and Gameshark2 V1.2
what sucks about gameshark is that it ejects the cd when i try to pull the swap trick..that shit ****s my chances of running anything i think.

Lack of a modchip will not help you to learn anything. Your comments below are ample evidence that the lack of a modchip is already holding you back.

Sounds like a standard setup for a nomod PS2.

Search for the newer SNES Station ELF, which can be run from any media and can use ROMs stored on a USB drive.

I advise you to stop with the knife trick before you do some serious damage to your PS2. You're jerking around parts of the CDVD drive mechanism in ways it was never designed for.

As for running IMBNES as an ELF, that simply won't work, as it is a PS1 program, so it must boot as a PS1 CD, because that is the only way to run any PS1 programs on the PS2. And because it is a PS1 program, swap methods designed for PS2 CD's don't work. (Different boot process, different timing, etc.)

But you can run InfoNES as a PS2 ELF from memory card, and it can also fetch ROM files from MC. The same goes for InfoGB as well.

I agree as to the last, as an opened CDVD tray will be detected by the BIOS, which will then check the new disc for being pressed, not burned.

TBH I think the swap method stinks. It's not worth the effort even when it does work, compared to getting a mod-chip.
