What are you trying to do? Backup data onto the disk? You might want to just sacrifice the contents of the disk. Just put the disk into a USB enclosure and connect it directly to the laptop, and format it with Windows. It'll not only be faster that way, but it'll be more reliable and save you a lot of headaches.
