Looking for some help understanding

I am almost completely clueless when it comes to computers, so please ignore my ignorance and lack of knowledge.

I have an unchipped PS2. I got an 80Gb Maxtor hard drive which i have uploaded a few of my games. A Network Adapter and was told that i needed HDAdvance v3.
Now the main reason was i wanted an HDD was somewhere to store my save games, and save money + effort on having to buy and use any number of memory cards.
Then the idea of storing games became more appealing.
But to my dismay i cannot move or even backup memory card saves the way i wanted or even access the HDD without the aide of HDAdvance and at that i can only add/delete/play games.

What is the best way (or program) to transfer Memory card save files to my HDD?
And how would i use this?
Would it be easier to just get my console chipped?

You will need to find some way to run homebrew. On a unmodded console the exploit is the way. But is fairly hard to do this, you will need an original PS1 disc and a lot of google If you choose to cip your console be sure to chip it with a mod that allow you to boot from memory card or hdd... DMS3, DMS4, Matrix Infinity... and you put the uLaunchELF on memory card as BOOT.ELF, and from there is verry easy, you may transfer the saves to hdd or to a usb stick. Good luck.

Or you can make chip/boot disc and make a cd with a system.cnf file to boot your elf... if you want to go this way, just reply and I'll give you the instructions

the exploit is not hard at all m8. its very easy and there are dozens of tutorials on how to do it.

indeed, if you already have HDAdvance, you have all you need to install the exploit.

so does that mean i need to somehow install exploit onto my memory card? could i transfer it to my USB stick i got with my Action Replay Max? That would be big enough wouldn't it?

there is a lot of info almost everywhere on how to instal the exploit with ar-mar, hdadvance retail and such. thats prolly y no is answering your question m8. Search a little better, and u will find whatr ur looking for. I dont know coz i modded my ps2 from the start.
