When transferring saves to my memory card VIA ftp.. I get this error
[R] 500 Local Write Failed.
That means exactly what it says. For some reason the writing of the file to the memory card has failed.Originally Posted by Nyutan
Have you checked that the card has sufficient free space for the file to be transferred ?
Also, are you aware of having had any corrupt memory blocks on that MC in the past ?
Some programs (eg: DMS Explorer) can install stuff to your MC in a messed-up way, using subfolders (not fully supported on MC). Removing those will not release all the memory used, and you end up with a memory card that doesn't have all the free space it should, even when it has no visible content. If that has happened to you, you may need to reformat the card (search for mckiller).

It's a 64MB memory card. I have plenty of space. and I've never used DMS Explorer. I'm using Ulaunchelf with FlashFXP to ftp
Ok then, at least that cleared away some possible suspicions.Originally Posted by Nyutan
So do you get that error consistently, or was it just a one-time event ?
Has FTP to that card ever worked, and if so did file size seem to matter ?

Sorry I can't be of too much help, as I don't really rely on my own 64MB Datel Max Memory. It's too slow for my tastes and I'm mostly sticking with my official 8MB cards. Anyway with that being said, I did use it to backup saves when dlanor and I were testing the mcCopy/mcPaste routine. Personally I wouldn't trust FTP with such a large non-Sony memory card but that's just probably me.
I guess I could ask a few questions and see if it goes anywhere.![]()
How much space has been used? How much is free? LaunchELF can be used to determine used vs. free.
How long did it work before it stopped working?
How large is the save or saves you're trying to send over? Is it a particular game save?
Is writing to the memory card the only problem?
It says there's only 32MB on the card.. That's not a big deal. I only got it a month ago. and I'm trying to update my AR codelist.
I wouldn't go for FTP at all.
It's slow and buggy! I had serious problems with FTP, like corrupted data, failed copy/remove actions, and so on. I don't use FTP at all since then, and host never caused me problems. BTW, host with mcPaste is the only way of backing up your saves correctly to the PC, cause FTPing them will destroy some saves.(e.g. GTASA)
Better use the host function to do all transfers from and to MC, cause the FTP doesn't know how to handle MCs correctly.

I haven't experienced any corrupted data or failed copying/removing since I made all the changes I did some months ago. FTP was/is meant for transferring files not saves from all I have gathered. Much of the homebrew stuff was not geared towards backing up or restoring game saves correctly. A few things were overlooked early on in PS2 development circles.Originally Posted by Jones23
Yes, host is great for transferring large files to the PS2 hdd. Although smaller files like the BOOT.ELF are easily transferred to mc through FTP quite quickly and easily. FTP is fast enough for transferring data to slower mediums like memory cards. Each version of uLaunchELF I use gets sent over PS2Net's FTP server via FileZilla from the PC side.
PS2MNU-K and uLaunchELF have the best implementations for backing up and restoring saves. Of course, uLaunchELF is more complete in this regard thanks to all the digging by dlanor and I have done. The attributes file is the only way to go and it allows one to backup some of the most complex saves. You can't possibly restore certain saves from the PC that use nonstandard MS Windows characters. The best way to backup saves to a memory card is using uLaunchELF, which will keep all the attributes truly intact, by copying the files as they are to another memory card. Another safe way is mcPasting the files to the PS2 hdd where the attributes file keeps the attribute data of the backed up game saves. Coping some game saves to the PC can cause problems, as we know certain games use strange characters in their filenames. Operating systems such as Windows refuse to accept them.
FTP is a different animal and will continue to be so as it would be a mess to make it do a mcPaste like routine. Host has its advantages, as it's more a part of uLaunchELF with added functions. An FTP server can only offer so much without adding extra overhead to it and further possible complications.
Oops, I didn't use FTP for over half a year now, so I must have missed your changes.
Just wanted to make clear, that it's no good idea to use FTP for saves.
Cause I think most noobs will go for FTP first, as it's easier than messing with the PS2Client.
About the saves with forbidden characters:
I know of 3 games so far, a James Bond (agent under fire, i think), a Harry Potter (GoF) and Rogue Trooper.

I got a pendrive. Makes stuff easier now. Everything solved. Close/Delete/whatever this thread! ^_^
