I use the launchelf for a very long time. i have used the ftp in many cases in the past flawlessly. but now i have a problem. the transfer speeds don't exceed the speed of 11kb/s. it takes years to tranfer even an mp3!!!
i just got an adsl modem (linksys wag354g) k connected my ps2 on it instead of my ethernet) i made all the required changes in the ipconfig and i can tranfer stuff to my ps2. i had to modify my cable to make it straight instead of crossover. it seems that this is the problem.

1.can someone tell me the way the wires in the cable should be and what to watch out in order to have full speed again?(i don't want to buy an 11m cable again)
    2. what r the maximum speeds for tranfering stuff through ftp or RadHostClient?

    Thanks in advance!

Here's the answer for your first question about straight through vs. crossover UTP Ethernet cables: http://www.bluemax.net/techtips/netw...estandards.htm

I use a hub to transfer between uLE and the PC, so I don't think my results would be a good representation of max speeds with RadHostClient. I believe transferring with a cross-over cable or having a router is faster then using a hub?

well... a hub can only direct data between two pcs at a time. a switch, however, can do multiple computers at once. so for this reason, switches are faster. i dont think a direct cable would be any faster than using a switch or router.

you should have normal cableing between your hub/switch/router and your ps2. the only time you use crossover cable is when you need to connect two pcs directly.

im not sure what the max speeds are, but they are ALOT faster than 11kb/s. I do know that host is significantly faster than ftp though.

But you have to admit there are only 2 conputers involved in the above scenario. A switch could only have a speed advantage on large high-activity LANs where the probability of packet collisions would be increased. It could not explain KallaiR's low speed.

@KallairR: does your ADSL WAN activity light flash when transferring to your PS2? If your PC was sending data to your PS2, through your ISP, it may explain the low speed (what is the maximum upstream speed on your ISP?). This can be resolved by manually adding a route with the proper netmask on XP so that your packets do not route via the gateway (i.e. your ADSL modem/ISP). And can you clarify your network topology? There is a hub involved? What do you mean "instead of my ethernet"?

@rathunter: it seems that this might be the problem. my internet speed is 384/128 and i use a limiter to have my upload in 11kb/s. how do i make a route in order not to have them sent at ps2 through my isp?

ok solved!! i add the 192.168.1.0, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.1 in my modem advance routing settings and the connection now is at about 160-200kb/s. i don't know if it was the limiter or the routing but now i won't open the limiter again during transfering stuff to my ps2 in order to be sure.

by the way which way is considered as faster? radhostclient or ftp? which is more stable?

Host/RadhostClient is a little faster than FTP for me. I just pick whichever is convienent: FTP if I'm at my computer, Host if I'm at my PS2. Old versions of both have been unstable, but I've had zero problems with either in recent releases. The speed question gets asked a lot. Why don't you do some tests and post your results?
