The only way to improve that is with plenty of practice, so for now we'll just have to make the best of it, trying to understand as much as we can (at both ends).

    well
i already have the freemc boot installed in my memorycard,
Maybe so, but not a complete standard installation, judging by the rest of your post.

You don't have to place such program files in any one specific place. But you do need to have them stored somewhere, obviously, in order to use them at all. USB is one popular place to have them, mainly because it is one of the few ways to easily access the same storage folders using either a PC or the PS2, allowing easy movement of stuff from a PC to the PS2.

e:// ulaunch.elf and other .elf files like nes.elf or snes.elf
That "e:/" stuff is how a Windows or DOS system identifies storage drives, which is not how it is done on a PS2, where we instead used named devices, more like in Linux.

As for "ulaunch" that is a widely popular (though hated by me) abbreviation for a program named "uLaunchELF", which I am one of the developers/maintainers of, and for which this subforum serves as the 'home site'. The officially approved abbreviation of the "uLaunchELF" name is "uLE", and the standard filename for use by FMCB and other boot systems is "BOOT.ELF", and for FMCB the standard location is either "mc0:/BOOT/" or "mc1:/BOOT/". Thus the full boot path when booting uLaunchELF through FMCB will be either "mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF" or "mc1:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF". The first of those variants is also identical to the boot path that would be used for the 'DEV1' boot method of a modchip.

and when i turn on my ps2 i press circle botom
it would appear this menu (ive never seen this in my tv)
If you never saw it, then how do you know when or even if it 'would appear'.

Also, your picture link did not work, so I don't really know what picture it refers to, but only that it had something to do with an article in russian that apparently dealt with uLaunchELF and some other stuff. Since I don't really know the russian language it's hard to tell the details.

but when i turn on my ps2 with the memorycard and my usb connected i can see freemc boot logo, and then a black screen and nothing....
So when you boot without any disc in tray you never get to see the FMCB menu, is that it ?

i cant send files or .elf to my memorycard cuz i cant see the ulaunch menu
should i burn the .elf files in a dvd or cd, what can i do??
If the installation really is faulty, then it will be hard to do anything correctly.
But more on this further down...

i didnt modify my ps2, they did in a store i just have

    my ps2
    usb 4gb
    ulaunch.elf
    snes.elf
    nes.elf
memorycard with the free mc loader, and just the ESR....
Shops would like to install just ESR, since that makes the customer depend on the shop for all kinds of service to the FMCB installation, allowing them to charge the same customer over and over again for work that the customer would have been able to do himself, if he had only had access to a normal 'noobie pack' installation of FMCB, like all the FMCB volunteer installers can provide.

But assuming that the ESR part at least works correctly, it should not be too hard for you to fix your installation, and either add the missing parts to your current faulty installation, or make a brand new installation that could then be complete from the start.

The first and foremost thing for you to do is to download one of the uLE boot disc ISOs from the release post of uLE (the first post in the main 'sticky' thread). The one you need is the one for a DVD disc.

Unpack that ZIP to get the ISO file, and then ESR-patch that file just as you would ESR-patch a game backup ISO before burning it to disc. If you don't have the ESR-patcher (if the shop wanted you to be dependent on buying ESR-backups too), then you can download it from the ESR subforum, also in the same Homebrew/Dev forum as this uLaunchELF subforum. Either way, you should ESR-patch the ISO file of the uLE boot disc ISO and then burn it to a normal DVD-R disc.

With that disc in the PS2 disc tray and the FMCB memory card in the primary MC slot your console should boot into the uLaunchELF menu, allowing you access to all the various tools of uLE, the primary one being the FileBrowser, which will allow you to repair the installation on MC. The first thing of all to do in these repairs is to use the FileBrowser to create a folder named "BOOT" in the root of "mc0:/", and to place the "BOOT.ELF" file from a uLE release package inside that folder. Another folder you will need on the MC if it does not already exist is "mc0:/SYS-CONF" so if that is missing you should create it as well.

There are many different ways to continue from there, but your primary needs would be to read up on the NORMAL ways of using FMCB, as opposed to the definietely ABNORMAL ways of using it which that shop is trying to trick people into following, by providing faulty incomplete FMCB installs.

They probably charged you a lot for it too, in the form of a raised price for the MC, as that is the normal course of actions for such people. Charging good money for something they stole, that was intended to be freely available to all users at no charge at all.

So read up all you can in the FMCB forums, and when you feel ready for it your best bet to get a fully normal FMCB installation is to use that uLE boot disc to start the real FMCB installer program from a USB drive where you have also prepared a full FMCB noobie package.

Then you can use the FMCB installer to format a memory card (to get rid of all the old garbage) and install FMCB properly yourself, thus ridding yourself of any dependency on that shop. It would perhaps be best to do this with a second MC though, so you don't take any risks with the ability to boot uLE with your first MC before the second one is proven able to boot into the FMCB main menu and thence starting uLE. That is the safest way to do the job. But if you can't get a second MC for some reason, I'd still advice you to do it anyway, though you need to be very careful with the USB preparations then, to be sure everything is complete and correctly done.

    Best regards: dlanor
