I really don't know if that is possible, though it might be.
What I really can't understand at all is how you could possibly want to do this.

If you have a DVD disc that you need to access from the PC, for copying files from it to th PC discs, then just insert that disc into the reader of that PC, so you can copy the files at a decent speed, instead of being limited by the PS2 transfer capabilities, which can't come close to that speed (regardless of the PS2 software used).

However, if you absolutely insist on doing things the hard way, you can still do the transfer from PS2 CDVD drive to a PC by using uLE. It's just the FTP server of it that is limited in not accessing the CDVD drive. But if the disc is at all readable to uLE, then uLE can also be used to copy the content of that disc to a PC, provided thay you use ps2client on the PC and have a proper setup allowing the FileBrowser to paste files to host: folders (the networked PC).

I think i was not completely clear with my explanations....

It´s true, i need to access the PS2's DVD through ftp, but not from my PC (it´s really hasn´t much logic).

Here is the thing: Recently i bought a Popcorn Hour (that allow me to play HD videos without the PC, MKV 720p or 1080p), but this machine hasn´t an optical drive. Then i think that i could share the dvd of the playstation 2 through the local network (via ftp, smb, etc) and access it from the Popcorn Hour (and it allows me to turn off the PC... for ever....??..).

    In simple words, something like:

    1) Turn On the PS2
    2) Automatic start the app/elf/server that share the DVD Drive
    3) Put the DVD
    4) Access to the share unit from the Popcorn Hour
    5) Watch the videos

I know... i know... a more simple solution is attach an external usb-dvd drive to the Popcorn Hour, but it´s means ANOTHER equipment around the TV..... here is "WHY" i insist on this idea.

If you know any method to do this, or if you can add this feature in another version of uLe, i really REALLY appreciate it.

    Greetings

    Jerome

So you really expect a program running on the PS2 to be capable of making it act like a DVD-drive NAS unit at sufficient speed for High Definition video playback...?

No FTP implementation for the PS2 has ever been fast enough for such use.

And no Samba implementation for the PS2 has ever been able to share PS2 devices with other units. They only allow access to remote shares from the PS2, not the other way around. And even if they did allow it, it still wouldn't be fast enough.

Insist as you please, but that won't change the facts.

Sorry but I see no simple way to add anything like this.

That's not a problem. I think I understood everything you said now, though I still don't think there's much to do about it.

    Emmmmm...... well..... yes...

I understand that, at this moment, all that you say is true, and is clear that exist many difficulties and limitations.

And even if they did allow it, it still wouldn't be fast enough.
    Let me add some ideas/facts:
    - Most of the HD Videos (MKV h.264 + AC3 or DTS) keep in one DVD (single or doble layer) with bitrates between 3 to 6 Mbits/seg.

    - Using the DVDPlayer of the PS2 we can see DVD Movies with similar bitrates. It means that the DVD-Rom can access to this information with really good speed.

    - In the site of "SMS"
    http://home.casema.nl/eugene_plotnikov/
    Mr. Plotnikov add this guide:
    http://home.casema.nl/eugene_plotnikov/pitrz/manual.htm
For convert 720p videos to mpeg-2 (1024px max. width), but with high bitrates too.
I made some tests (Blade Runner 720p --> mpg2 1024 width), and put this files on my PC, accessing to it with the SMB protocol (PS2+SMS --> PC), with no problems.

    In summary:
    a) The DVD-Rom of the PS2 supports the necessary high speed.
    b) The SMB protocol works fine in one direction (from PC to PS2), and it is fast enough to playback hd videos.

    Then....
Why is not possible to do the same thing in the other way??
Really exist a hardware limitation on the PS2, that allows only high speed in one way but not in the other??
It is possible that another app (something like Linux for PS2) can do this??

    Greetings

    Jerome
