Hi, I'm completely new to modding PS2 platforms, have experience in modding PC games, mostly in the graphics. My problem is creating the actual boot DVD disc and after going through a lot of the posts I have determined that using a Sony DVD+ is good, burning with IMGburn are the best options on a mid-range speed.
My PS2 is a used "slim" model with a # SCPH-79001. I have no mod chips that I can determine. All I want to manipulate using Ulaunch is access to utilize many of the USB thumb drives I have to back up the two memory cards. My nephew loves smackdown versus raw and you can only save one profile per memory card. He wants to create many federations, and I as the CAW don't want to buy 10 memory cards when I have USB's lying around. So the main thing is using the file manager I think.
Now my question is when I create the disc, I'm to have the uLaunchELF ISO in the root of the disc. Is that all? Do I have to rename it? I tried creating a CD but the PS2 would not recognize the disc. That was using uLaunch 4.12 CD version. I have now downloaded the v4.37 and v4.42a to try on a dvd.

I see there is an ESR disc patcher, do I have to patch the ISO first? At the moment we're not interested in creating game discs, just getting to access the USB drives to back up and perhaps later booting from them or a memory card.
    I would appreciate any assistance.

    CD Installing

That guide will help you install Free McBoot onto your memory card using a burned disc method. I recommend using sony DVD-R not +R's, there is something about +R discs putting more strain on PS2 lasers. Anyway, ESR disc patcher is used on ISO's you create from your games so you can load them with ESR on the PS2. You will need some way to boot the burned disc, try either Swap Magic or the sensor blocking trick for the slim. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your response. Luckily I have a box of Sony-R here so I tried that. I burned the uLaunch v4.37 iso to the disc using IMGburn at 24X. I also read that the book type should be DVD-ROM so I changed that for my LG DVR. It created the disc, verified fine.
So I sensor blocked the two sensors as instructions and two youtube videos indicated. Started up Madden09 while in browser and quickly switched discs to my uLaunch one and each time I get the Please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 format disc.
Is there anything else that needs to be done on that disc? Do the components from v4.4 need to go with the ISO? I have never had so many problems trying to get something that seems so easily done by others before so this has been humbling!

Sorry I assumed you already had a method of loading burned discs. If you don't, you should get Free McBoot onto one of your memory cards. The Noobie package does come with the recommended software for the PS2, like ulaunchelf, however you choose witch software you want and which you want to get rid of. Check the list here (PS2 Game Swap Trick - List Submissions) for a list of compatible games that will let you install Free McBoot. I already checked and Madden 09 isn't compatible. If you don't already know how to change ISO files, check PS2 Game Swap Trick, but instead of 007 you will be using the game that you own.

Yeah, I'm starting to realize there is much more to this! I also see why people send their MC to volunteers to place the required files on. Thank you for the link, I see SvR2006 is on a list for suitable swapping. So in general, you take the ISO from a genuine game, replace some files inside the ISO with your own, then repack and burn and this allows a boot to occur? I sure got in over my head when I promised my nephew I would create some CAWs for him not realizing I would need many more MC and I'm a total cheapskate!
But I'm going to use your link binavik and try some more.
Thanks again for your time, I really appreciate it.

No problem, if push comes to shove you can always try to send your memory card to one of the volunteers.
