Cdfs not working –
06-17-2006,09:38 AM
Hi. I have a v12 modded with a Myth chip (v1.75)
I installed Ule, i boot it from the memcard but when i go to Cdfs and try to acces a disc it all freezes,no buttons respond and the red light on the controller switches off .Only way out is resetting.
I tried with ULE 3.72, 3.74 and 3.78. All froze on me.
Help

I tried several games ,also i even tried to acces cdfs without any disc inside,it still freezes in the exact same way which leads me to think it's not because of the disc itself but a problem with Ule,maybe a version incompatibility with my chip(Myth) or ..who knows...you come up with theories

I am having a similar issue but with no freezes, uLE just refuses to read cdfs. I have tried this with a few discs including ps/ps2 games and SMS readable DVD-R with DivX movies on them which play just fine using SMS. So I can't copy these movies to the HDD using uLE.

Could this be a bug of Ule ? Cdfs acting weird ?

SMS uses a different CDVD driver than uLE, with support for some filesystems not supported by the driver used by uLE. That is why you can use DVD-Video DVD-R discs and even a special CD-R data disc format (faked CD-Audio) with SMS, even without any modchip.
Eventually we hope to use a better driver for uLE as well, but there are some technical issues to solve.

I don't think so. It does have some limitations though, and so do mod chips, and if those limitations combine against you, there's little we can do about it...
@Both:
I'm not familiar with your modchips, but some activate only for real game booting, but not for homebrew access like that used by uLE. This means that you effectively have no mod-chip except when booting a game. Here I can simulate a similar behaviour simply by booting with my DMS4 disabled and using the PS1 exploit to start uLE.
When started this way, without active modchip, uLE is only capable of reading two different disc types through the cdfs: device of the FileBrowser, and those are original PS1 and PS2 game discs (pressed originals only, no CD-R or DVD-R).
If/when we adapt the program to use a driver similar to that of SMS, then we should also gain the ability to read DVD-Video DVD-R discs and CDDAFS CD-R discs (but still no CD-R or DVD-R game discs or CDROM/DVDROM data discs). However, that new driver is not yet implemented.
