just tried with PS2ClientLoader and RadHostClient and neither seemed to allow me to paste data in to anything in the host folder. I don't think it's an allowable action in LaunchElf. Sooo... any other ideas?

EDIT: ok answered in this thread: http://psx-scene.com/forums/official...from-a-pc.html

And dlanor, I'm getting ~650 KBps, I hate to think what FTP is if HOST's quicker... Do you know what feedback (if any) I should get if a transfer fails (eg. data on disc is unreadable)?

    Here's whatcha do...

    1. To set up ULE correctly, attach a usb drive, Copy LAUNCHELF.CNF from wherever it is (usually mc0:/SYS-CONF/LAUNCHELF.CNF ) to the USB drive, then open it with notepad on a PC. To copy, hold R1, select copy, go to usb (mass:/), R1, paste.

    2. Change NET_HOSTwrite = 0 to NET_HOSTwrite = 1 to enable writing via the host:/ directory (to a PC). Save it back on the usb drive.

    3. Stick the USB drive back in the ps2, copy the LAUNCHELF.CNF file from the USB drive (mass:/), paste it back in to wherever you found it (ie. mc0:/SYS-CONF/ ).

    4. Connect PC to PS2 via cross-over cable, I guess you should check ip's/subnets match too. find that info elsewhere.

    5. Download PS2ClientLoader_v131.zip , either at http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/offi...-v1-2-0-a.html or google it.

    6. Extract and run PS2CL-131.exe. Create a directory on your PC (preferably one with no spaces, eg. C:/mydir). Drag said directory in to the main PS2CL window, it should show up as a share.

    7. While running ULE, DO NOT ruin PS2Net (like i did, que puzzled looks for an hour...). Instead just enter the host:/ directory and wait. PS2CL icon should turn green (from red) after a few seconds. Exit host:/, re-enter, and you should see C:/mydir or whathaveyou available. Enter it and you should be able to create a directory, and paste data in to it.

    8. Copy away.

I'm glad you found it. Personally I'd prefer to have write access enabled by default, but if I had implemented it that way I know that I'd have been blamed whenever someone messed up his PC by deleting system files when browsing from the PS2, so I had to disable it by default. It doesn't really matter since it's easy to change for anyone who knows what to do.

HOST is indeed much faster than FTP.
You'd be lucky to get as much as 150 KBps with FTP.

Do you know what feedback (if any) I should get if a transfer fails (eg. data on disc is unreadable)?
Well, if it really is unreadable the primary symptom would be a very long period of retries. And what happens next depends on many things. Besides, what direction of transfer are we talking about here, PC to PS2 or vice versa...

This is all good, but there is another very useful way to make shares available.

Look in the same folder where you have PS2CL and the ps2client exe files. There you should also find a file named "elflist.txt". The name is rather silly, as it derives from a time when HOST protocol was used almost exclusively for remote elf launching. But in fact that file is where your HOST protocol shares are defined, by a single text line per shared file or folder.

Personally I never bother to name individual files in the shares list, though that was its original purpose, but I find it much more useful to name entire drives instead, which is done simply by entering the drive letter followed by a colon character, like this:
    D:
    E:
    F:
Those three lines would make the entire drives D:, E: and F: accessible to the PS2, and since this also works for defined 'network drives' of Windows you can even browse multiple computers through HOST protocol this way, even though only one of those computers is in contact with the PS2 through HOST protocol.

    Best regards: dlanor
