So more and more people are using x264 now instead of XViD. I was just wondering are there any plans to make SMS read x264 (.avi) files?
H.264 requires a powerful CPU. Even Xbox Media Center has problems decoding it. It might not be possible to implement on PS2.
It seemed like a lot of people were switching to x264 a few months ago but now a lot more hd rips are xvid encoded... I think we'll be alright without it...
Hopefully, your right and people will start using xvid again ;) ;).

- x264 in VOB container
- x264 in MKV container
- H264 in mp4 container
Xvid is typical for Standard Definition
EEUG stated a long time ago that it is impossible for him to implement X264/H264 for the high definition resolutions such media normally use, using the resources available to the PS2. There has to be a physical limit somewhere, and this is one of them.Quote:

xvid and divx codecs in mkv container however sounds kind of tempting, SMS-wise; knowing the mkv containers can contain several sound tracks and subtitles as well as a compressed movie file, instead of having all loose bits and pieces in a folder.
opposed to the avi container that can hold sound and picture.
AFAIK the PS2 is not capable of anything but SD

Well... Eugene said that it was impossible to implement HD with a PS2, what he didn't say is whether it is possible to do it with two PS2 :)
