Wireless ethernet bridge and SMS ?
Wireless ethernet bridge and SMS ? –
I bought an Ethernet Bridge so i could make my PS2 wireless. Online games are working great as well as a couple of other media players but SMS just won't work. The reason I got one was for SMS and it's amazing capabilities. I've used ulaunchelf to correctly setup an ipconfig.dat Usually as soon as the bridge detects communication over the ethernetcable it then enables the wlan. I can see that the PS2 and the wireless bridge are talking to each other because the ethernet light flashes but the wlan just won' connect. Any ideas?
The wireless bridge is a SMCWEBT-G
I recently bought an ethernet bridge to use with my ps2 too and I got it working! My bridge is a different one than yours though, it?s a netgear wge111, but hopefully the stuff I did to get it working will make it work for you too! First, launch sms, press start, go to ?Device Settings?, then to ?Edit IPCONFIG.DAT.? For me, when i entered in this information SMS made the bridge have a static IP address of the one I entered in. I used 192.168.2.12 because my router?s gateway address was 192.168.2.1. For you, just pick an ip address that you?d like for SMS to use EVERY time you use SMS. I believe that this ip address has to be related to your gateway address though. So, if your router?s gateway is 192.168.0.1, your IP address could be 192.168.0.12. For the net mask, this is your subnet mask, I think it should be 255.255.255.0 but I?m not sure about your router’s settings. And lastly the gateway address is the address you enter into your browser to configure your router?s settings. Then when you?re done save the IPCONFIG.DAT. On your computer, I assume you?re already running radhostclient, ps2autoclient, or some other network share thing for the ps2? For this you just need to enter in the new IP address that you entered into SMS. Restart SMS and hopefully you?ll be able to see your computer?s files! If this doesnt work try restarting the radhostclient (or other program) before launching SMS again. Hope you?ll be enjoying your Divx/Xvid/MP3 wirelessly soon!
can you ping the ps2 ip address from your pc? if no, then something is wrong with ipconfig.dat. If yes, are you running ps2autoclient?
I seem to have found a workaround. If I load up an online enabled PS2 game and use that to connect. The WLAN lights up on the ethernet bridge. Once lit if I then reboot the ps2 and load up SMS it works since the WLAN is enabled. It's a bit of anoying doing this all the time though. The only problem is that SMS will not make the WLAN enable. PS2 reality media player works but SMS just doesn't want to. This problem would also be fixed if the ethernet bridge enabled the wlan automatically when its switched on instead of just enabling it when it gets comunication over the ethernet cable.
I just fixed a simular problem with my Tivo. The only way I could get the WLAN on my ethernet bridge to enable was to have the Tivo ping my router when it boots up. This then makes my ethernet bridge connect to my wireless network. I don't know if it's possible for the PS2 to ping my router though.
have you looked in your wlan bridge to see if there´s anything you can configure in there?
