You can always use SMB networking feature to connect to you shared folders/drives on your windows/whatever machine... This is the best playback option imho.) I even share my dvd drive on PC and use to read some discs which ps2 doesn't read .. discs which are damaged or in UDF format.
Where can I find this SMB?
Found this little while ago.

Having little trouble, Im hoping to getting it up this hour.
edit:
I just cant get it work.
I followed the guide... and nothing.
Say... I need that exact IP, or my IP?

use a different IP on the PS2 from what you use on the PC but make the first three numbers the same...
eg. i have:
modem: 192.168.1.2
router: 192.168.1.1
PCs 192.168.1.3 - 192.168.1.5
PS2 192.168.1.10
printer 192.168.1.20
the reason the first three numbers must match is to do with the subnet.
dave_t put a great guide to the whole setup ont he user manual here:
http://www.adam.com.au/kellyjones/sm...e-network.html
if you have a USB stick, you can use that to copy the smb file instead of FTP if that's easier for you.
I'm having th same problem as Spz with getting the shared Windows folder to work correctly. I have been using SMS a long time but only via PS2ClientGUI over the network. I have used dave_t & his guide but still can't get it working. I have a Crystal Chip & have placed the SMS.smb file into the my SMS folder on the MC without any luck either. I have even un-installed & re-installed the latest stable SMS(2.2, rev 2) with the SMS.smb file in the BM folder but that too didn't work. I can't get the Network Protocol:SMB/CIFS option to show up within the device settings of SMS. I'm sure that I'm just missing something simple but I don't know what yet.
I have also checked to make sure my network configuration matches but that shouldn't be the case either because I've been using this same set-up for quite a while now. I just decided the Windows folder share is the definitely the best route for playing my files over the network but I'm having some kind of issue here. Anybody with a CC & knows what might be the problem then please enlighten me here! Thanks!![]()

I assume this means that you also keep all other files unchanged in that folder, replacing only the SMS ELF file. If so, that could be part of the problem, as all old settings will then remain. So while you intended to make a brand new installation and reconfiguration, that is not what will happen when you launch that new SMS copy.
Note that I'm NOT saying you should remove the config files of SMS, but only that some of the old settings may be the reason why you can't find the one you're looking for.
SMS will not allow you to change a protocol that is already active. So if you already have your old networking method active, then you can't access the settings where the protocol is chosen. This means that you must disable the setting "Autostart network", save settings, and then restart SMS. In this new session it will offer two additional options in the "Device Settings..." submenu, these being:I can't get the Network Protocol:SMB/CIFS option to show up within the device settings of SMS. I'm sure that I'm just missing something simple but I don't know what yet.
"Network protocol" This setting is switchable between "ps2dev/host" and "SMB/CIFS"
"Start network support" This takes effect immediately, so use it only after the other one, as using this one will again remove BOTH the new options
Once you've chosen the protocol and started the networking, you should again enable the "Autostart network" option, for future boots, and then back out to the main menu and save settings yet again.

Yes, the only thing that is changed is the SMS.ELF file when upgrading/updating the SMS Player.I assume this means that you also keep all other files unchanged in that folder, replacing only the SMS ELF file. If so, that could be part of the problem, as all old settings will then remain. So while you intended to make a brand new installation and reconfiguration, that is not what will happen when you launch that new SMS copy.
Well, I didn't have the setup as "Autostart Network" anyhow. I have went step-by-step from the manual to try & fix it but still haven't pinpointed the exact problem yet.SMS will not allow you to change a protocol that is already active. So if you already have your old networking method active, then you can't access the settings where the protocol is chosen. This means that you must disable the setting "Autostart network", save settings, and then restart SMS.
I have done some more research though & there are a couple things I am gonna try including enabling NETBIOS over TCP/IP settings for my NIC. I read this somewhere as a possible problem too. Thanks dlanor!![]()

If you are unable to get the SMB option to appear in your SMS settings, then this means there is a problem with your SMS installation. I'd fix that first before messing around with your PC network settings.
Things i'd suggest:
Check that you have the newest version of SMS, and that your boot loader is actually loading that version.
Make sure your SMS.smb file is SMS.smb, not SMS.smb.txt.
Recreate your SMS.smb file and load it onto the mc again.
Delete your SMS config file (SMS.cfg?) and start again.
Make sure you disable autostart network, then save settings, then restart SMS before trying to set up the network.
