    Hello,

This is my first post here and I have very strange problem with SMS. I have PS2 Slim with Matrix Infinity 1.54 and games are working perfect but when I try to load data DVD with divx or mp3 from SMS it says Illegal disc. However I made a video DVD using the tutorial and everything works fine. However yesterday I decided to watch a movie and when I tried to load the movie with SMS there were no files on DVD (I mean the screen in SMS is empty ... the DVD has files and the DVD is video dvd and it was working last week). I also tried with another DVDs which are video DVDs with avi and mp3 but the same. If I put a data CD with mp3 and avi it works perfect but not with DVD. The strange thing is that it was working last week. And another interesting thing is that the same problem I had with the old version with SMS (I mean older than 1.9) and I decided that there is a bug and actually it can't read DVD and I used only CDs and last week when I tried v1.9 I was very happy to see that it works with DVDs but now I have the same problem

    Any idea? Thanks.

Since the SMS.elf doesn't mutate from week to week, it might be a hardware problem.

Yes I'm sure it doesn't mutate. It reads CDs and PS2 games are working. Where to search for the problem?

Often a failing laser has problems first with burned disks, while pressed originals are easier to read. Are your working PS2 games on the same media as your .avi disks? Also try to think about any other variable that wasn't constant from week to week.

Yes the same media - verbatim DVD...actualy SMS read it and is present in "Avaiable media" but the contents is empty...nothing... also when I start the same DVD with avis (it is a video DVD with the dummy data from this site) it plays as a DVD without problem. Only SMS can't read it. As I explained I had the same problem before but when I tried 1.9 everything works fine. Now again... nothing has changed... except new year... maybe I need to try to change the date to 2006 again

I found a "solution" to the problem. I don't know what exactly is the problem but when this problem appear I need just to restart the PS2 with a normal video DVD and play few minutes (2 minutes are enough) and after that SMS shows the DVD normal. Until next time I switch off the console.

    Software or hardware bug?

This could be something that your modchip is doing, but I'm not familiar with your particular one. Perhaps someone with direct experience can reply. Try different settings, such as a disable auto-sleep. Good luck.

No I tried everything... last several days I was only thinking about how it is possible... I downloaded the SMS source but I realize that I don't know nothing about PS2 hardware and I have not too much time to learn now so I leave it for now. I hope someone who have more experience with PS2 and SMS to have a clue what could be the problem. Anyway it works in that way... not good but I have no choice
