USB-HDD recognized, but no content shown :(
USB-HDD recognized, but no content shown :( –
03-19-2007,07:14 AM
Hi guys,
yesterday I tried the CD-image of SMS (1.9 and 2.x) and several different slave/master combinations. I even reformated my drive twice to FAT32, but the content (xvid-TV-shows) are not shown
Sometimes SMS locks up after entering the HDD. Is there still an USB issue there? Or did I do something wrong? The internal HDloader-HDD is recognized, so I guess it is not a HDD fault. The HDD works on windows and I use this external drive: http://www.raidsonic.de/de/pages/pro..._objectID=3788
Any help would be highly appreciated !
Thx in advance,
JT

Hdd For Ps2 –

For people interested in adding a hdd to the ps2 there is this option which is an external enclosure with both ethernet and usb 2.0 ports to connect to the ps2 i would rather prefer ethernet as usb in ps2 is only 1.1 and speed is almost half the ethernet in ps2 can reach, for mpeg2 playback ethernet is a must, also it has built in wireless G so you can also plug your ps2 to a wireless router and put the hdd enclosure where you want.
here is the link http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/D-Lin...oductDetail.do

@ EEUG,
please help me. Why doesn't USB work for me? do I need to create a special folder or something? what did I do wrong? HDD=FAT32, the icy-boy is a standard USB-external device using a prolific (or oxford) chipset. it is recognized. but the content is not shown
so I cant play a single xvid (avi) file
please help me.

What did you use to format it to FAT32? Winxp can't do it >32gb.
The only way I can get my usb hdd read by SMS is to open it up in unofficial LaunchELF first, then run SMS, and then it can access my hdd. If I don't, the USB icon just flashes and the program doesn't respond very well.
Try that.

hi pythonjosh,
where to get that unofficail launchelf release? I formatted my HDD with powerquest/NORTON partition magic 8. should I use the "swiss knife" instead?
UPDATE:
a few minutes ago I put the HDD into the PS2 to make sure it is not a SMS-bug.
and what can I tell you: it isn't! Because the HDD is not even shown in SMS! no content, no icon, nothing! So there must be something wrong. I try to format it with the swiss knife. what do you think? what is wrong with Partition Magic?

With the PS2, external (usb) hdd's have to be FAT32, internal hdd's have to be PS2 format. Only program that can read PS2 format via usb is with usbadvance to play games only.
You can get uLE (unofficial LaunchELF) in the uLE forum in the Homebrew forums:
http://psx-scene.com/forums/official-ulaunchelf-forums/
What is the swiss knife? Use fat32format to format the hdd to fat32:
http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/fat32format.htm
That's what I used to format my 300gb to fat32 and it works perfectly.

thanks. fat32format didnt help
and formatting the HDD in ps2format wouldnt help either, cuz I would have to transfer the games via network, since windows does not recognize the PS2-format
so the only option is getting the uLE usb-driver in SMS. I'd really appreciate if you could tell me how to do this.

Is this hard drive for inside the PS2 or thru the USB?
PS2 format is for games (and the +AVI partition for SMS) and has to be internal.
FAT32 is for USB only, and no PS2 games. fat32format is to format your hdd to fat32 format when it's in your computer. There are instructions on that website.
(yes I know there's usbextreme or advance or whatever, but it blows compared to HDL :P)

I tried USB and fat32 (with several formatting methods). none worked.
the other problem is: internal access only works if I put the stuff there via network. because putting the stuff on HDD via windows does not work when the HDD is in PS2 mode
so the most comfortable and most appreciated method would be: USB. but unfortunately, it is not recognized. so how do I put the uLE usb driver into SMS?
I already load SMS via the regular uLaunch.
p.s.: why does SMS not stop the CD-spinning after loading?
