Got a question, can I use an external usb hdd to store my movies/music on and play them through SMS? Or would I be better of getting an hdd for my ps2?

Also make sure that the FAT partition with your media files on it is the first partition on the disc.

so I assume that sms can't read fat32 partitions? that's a bit confusing considering I can steam video from my laptop (NTFS format) to my ps2 and sms reads them just fine

FAT/FAT32 are supported, but NTFS no.
And no, not all the HDD's work, but that's got to do with the USBD.IRX. You might even have an HDD that works with the "box" he is in, but doesn't work with other, it pretty much depends on the IDE-to-USB controller you're using (which is part of the "box").

It is with SMS, altough u probably get a lot more breaks than if u use the internal HDD for example. But it's still watchable.

if your divx movie is encoded above 1000kbps breaks will occur
any divx under that (nearly every one) works full speed after the 8 second time to the load the movie up in the first place
