Is it possible to play mpeg1 from usb cdrom using sms? i tried plugging my external cdrom to my ps2 but sms can't see the files on the cd. but it is working alright with my external hard drive. that is why i assume that it would work. Any suggestion? I have bunch of vcd movies that i want to play with my ps2.
thanks.

A CD drive in a external enclosure will not work with SMS, or any other homebrew I know of. The external storage must be in FAT 16 or 32. HDDs and flash memory use this format.
You can just copy the big filename.DAT from the VCD's MPEGAV folder to your removable HDD of flash drive. Then rename the file to filename.mpeg . That is what I do
If you need help understanding the VCD folder structure and encoding information (mepeg1) go here for more info.

hi, your right. i forgot that is why when i first used my external usb hard drive which is formatted to ntfs it didn't work. Then i have to format it again using fat system.
thanks for the enlightenment.

Actually DVD-RAM formatted in fat32 with data on it works in an external enclosure.
Much better to use the network and SAMBA though
