Unable to play videos in certain folders –
Recently I switched the computer I play my videos from, so I reconfigured the SMB.sms file to show these changes. Everything seems to work great, however I was seeing a problem where the folder I have my videos in would display the videos in SMS, but would not allow me to view these. I am using Windows XP Home as the host. I did manage to fix this problem after using the boot to safe mode option to change some permissions. Also, I noticed some folders work while others don't. Now, the folder I fixed is not working again. I'm not sure what changed as I haven't touched that computer since I fixed it.
So, the problem I am seeing is I cannot play videos in certain folders.
Any help? Thanks!
1 unshare the folders in safe mode if you cant do it it normal XP mode..
2 go into normal XP mode and share the folders again..
3 type NET SHARE from a CMD dos prompt and see whats shared and if all is ok..
4 restart the PC and check again..
Should sort the issue..
I tried that and it didn't work. I have noticed some files in the folder will play while others are not. I have my computer set to automatically download videos, then automatically moves these files from a temporary folder to the shared folder. I'm guessing it is some kind of permission problem in Windows XP Home rather than something with SMS or my SMS configuration. I'll keep at it, anyone have any ideas?
Make sure you have a username / password set in the SMS.smb file and make that user a member of the 'Administrators' group in XP
Thanks guys, I believe I may have fixed my problem. Turned out to be permissions in Windows XP Home. I had to do the Safe Mode thing and set them correct.
