Trouble playing AVI

Got an AVI that plays perfectly on my PC, when trying to play directly from my HDD in SMS it is recognised as an avi (Film reel icon), buffers the file and then loads it but just plays the sound with the visualisation bubbly thing.

Any clues how to sort this, had a look thru the 33 pages of bugs and user manual threads but no luck.....

try virtual dub google for it
in virtuldub >> File >>> open video file
Video>>>> Direct stream
use -> and <-- (on the bottom of the screen next to ''Frame) to choose a particullar scene or piece of the video.

and cut out a piece.( the piece that is cut out is not the piece that jou will save .
virtual dub will save only the piece left in virtual dub)
then EDIT>>> Cut
File >>> save as..

This has been tested by a friend on sms player and they get the same problem, can this be fixed? It plays perfectly in VLC

...still no luck to download it (Windows Media player pops up and says that it can't play "that file"), but most probably it has video encoding that is not implemented in SMS...
