Totally clueless

Ok, i have a slim ps2 and a laptop computer with usb capabilities and memory cards..How can i install and run the latest sms without modding it or anything special? Im a complete noob..I had a modded ps2 so i would boot it off the cd, but thats in another state right now. I would like some links and specific instructions for what to do to get it up and running. All i know how to do is plug in usb from my laptop to the ps2...Please help and ill be eternally grateful. Thanks..
