    Hi,
My PS2 has heaps of trouble playing CDs of any kind. And because I have a modchip, anytime I wish to play a PS2 CD game I make a backup and convert it to a DVD using Dummy files etc....
I was wondering if it's possible to load SMS without the use of any CD, because my PS2 won't be able to even read my PSX original trigger disc, which should, but won't, load the LaunchELF program.

    Here's what's available to me:
Modded (Messiah) Fat PS2 (not sure of the version, but definately not higher than v5)
ARMAX - and the converted-to-DVD backup so my PS2 can read it.
IC3 - which can create a disc for ELF usage (again DVD-converted)
PSX original - although useless as my PS2 can't read it
    USB Pen Drive
    8MB Memory Card
    Network Adaptor
    LAN

From what I've read, it seems that this might be possible, but I'll be unable to play videos over the network, as I wont be able to set up the IP config using LaunchELF.
If I can't play videos over the network, I'd atleast like to be able to play them off a DVD-R, which apparently I can just burn as a Data Disc as my PS2 is modded.
Anyway, can someone please help me out with this, because every tutorial I have read so far says it requires an oringal PSX trigger disc...
    Thanks in Advance.

The trigger disc is only needed if you are using the Independence Exploit. Because you have a mod chip you don't need this.

A popular method is to run from a memory card. If your modchip will let browse and run ELF files, i suggest you put ulaunchELF onto a DVD, then run it from there. Once it's running, copy the file onto your memory card. After that you can set up and use the network, which you can then use to FTP SMS onto yoru memory card.

Also, ARMAX will allow you to copy files from your PC to your memory card via a USB stick (crush/uncrush). I know this, because that's the way i first installed the independence exploit. Ever since that first time, I now use FTP to install/change anything.

BTW you don't need ulaunchELF to create your sms network settings. It's just that ulaunchELF has a handy editor to help you. It's just a plain old text file, examples are in the user manual. You don't need ulaunchELF to use SMS's network capabilities.
