SMS + server samba (vodafone station)
SMS + server samba (vodafone station) –
07-23-2009,07:20 AM
Hi guys,
that's my first post here, hope you're gonna help
Well, I'll try to be fast and as much precise as possible :
My Ps2 is matrix infinity modded
Have SMS 2.9 (rev3) installed on my mc and I'd like to play files stored on a samba server composed by a vodafone station (the actual samba server) with a USB extarnal HD attached.
For who doesn't know, vodafone station is practically a wi-fi router given by vodafone to its broadband home subscribers that also work as a samba server.
I activated the server, given "vodafone" as name, created user and password to share all HD partitions and given to the user read/write rights.
On SMS side, I created the SMS.smb file with following datas :
192.168.1.1 (ip address of the samba server)
VODAFONE (name of samba server)
playstation (name of ps2)
username
password
I load SMS, go to device settings and stop network support; then go to network settings, choose SMB/CIFS and activate network support...
At this point SMS stucks on "reading files"... I can see the "network HD" icon on top of the screen, but the prog freezes and I can't do nothing but to reboot...
Just to try and understand if there was any type of communication between SMS and samba server I tried not to put username and password on SMS.smb file, and in fact SMS tells me "incorrect user or pass" or something like that, but in any case that means that there's an interaction between vodafone station and ps2....
I really don't know how to make things work...I did everything right I guess, so...
Guys, I rely on you...

Is your ps2 hardwire to the server or it is connected wireless?
What is the ip address of your ps2?
I have this settings on my SMS.smb and it worked for me:
192.168.1.2
Nas
myPS2
192.168.1.6
Phoenix
myPS2
192.168.1.7
Widewings
myPS2
so I guess there is no problem with your SMS setting. My PS2 ip address is 192.168.1.9 . I only encountered that SMS hungs when I have unusual filename not a regular alphanumeric.
So I guess check your filename and check if you could see your computer also.

Similar problem –

I have done as described. Only I am using Mac OS X Tiger with SharePoints. Firstly, My windows 7 laptop sees all the Tiger shares. I have tried this
192.168.1.2
TIGERMAC (also TIGERMAC.LOCAL TIGERMAC/STEVE)
PS2
steve (also without this line)
The problem I am running into is when I get to the screen to select SMB/CIFS its just not there as an option. I have "Network protocol "ps2dev/host".
I can not change that selection.
Thanks

I believe this could mean the SMS.smb file is not really on your PS2 MC or it's there but it is not a valid *.smb file because of the way it was created.
How did you create your SMS.smb file (what editor, how did you save it, etc.)?
How are you moving the SMS.smb file to your PS2 MC?
Where are you placing it in the PS2 MC (what "directory")?

Then you do not have a similar problem at all, but an entirely different one.
The original poster already has SMS running in SMB/CIFS mode, and is having some problem with the server interactions. This has NOTHING to do with your own SMS configuration issue.
You should never hijack someone elses thread this way, unless your main problem symptoms exactly match what the original poster described, so that your post can be considered a 'sidelight' on the same issue. And that is not the case here.
So go make your own thread about your own problem.
(I believe it can be solved easily, but will not describe it in this thread.)
