SMS Networkstream too slow

Hi,

I'm the proud owner of a PStwo (slim version) and a pleased user of the great SMS Media Player. Except for one thing:

When I want to stream Videos from my PC to my PStwo it takes about 2 Minutes to load&buffer a 350 MB Xvid video. If I'm unlucky the PStwo freezes while loading. Sometimes, however, it actually starts playing the Video, but then it stops every 5 seconds (probably to rebuffer the video). I have already used several host programs like RadHostclient (V. 1.7), Ps2client etc. and different program versions of SMS Media Player, but none of them really improve the speed.

Recently the latest version of SMS Player (V1.8 revision 3) slightly improved the speed, but it is still impossible to enjoy a streamed video on the PStwo.

Just for information: My PStwo is part of a network, so I use a router.

It would we great if we could solve the problem together.

For most people the network speed that SMS provides is satisfactory (it let us play even quit high bitrate movies). I suspect your connection ps2<->router (or the connection router<->pc) isn't good enough.

I advise you check your cables and your rj45 modular plugs (or cut and mount them again).

Yes, but if it isn't longer than 3-4 - meters it shouldn't affect the speed (I was never able to establish faster connection with ps2 than ~25Mbps - even on short, very good quality cable. Using host capablities I wasn't able to get more than 8Mbps).

I tested the whole thing from another PC in the network and it worked very well. This computer is even further away from my PStwo than the PC i tried it on before. So i don't think the length of the cables cause the problem.

I already tried it with a freshly installed XP-system on my PC, but that won't solve the problem as well.

At the moment im downloading a new driver for my network.

Ooops... I don't know how did this happen. I meant 30-40 meters not 3-4 (obviously, "-" sign is very near of "0" and gray font on black background is not very readable).

As to suggestions... Have only one.... Test network speed between your pc an the other one you ware testing ps2 with.

The speed between the two PCs is OK. In both ways, upload and download, I had a rate of 800KBps, which should be enough for a common video.

Maybe you should turn off some broadcasting services from your PCs?

I already did that without success. But thank you for your suggestion.

Turn off your windows firewall? Open ports in your Router? you would have to think about SWICHT+ROUTER in your Network (it&#180;s more fast :)) or one second card of network in your PC and to directly connect the PS2 with a crossed cable (it&#180;s much more fast :))
