Well, since it's always better to post in an existing thread than to start a new one and my problem didn't seem to fit in the bug report sticky, I'll describe my problem here.
Hardware and app setup: see signature
NAS: Linkstation Pro LS-1000GL (v2)
In SMS, I can play .mp3, .avi and .jpg from /hdd0 and from /mass without any problem. Also, from XP laptop playing files via Windows share and via RadHostCLient works just fine.
From XP PC playing files via Windows share doesn't work, only via RadHostClient, but that doesn't matter, since RadHostClient is always running if it's on anyway.
The XP PC has the NAS' SMB share connected via network drive, and if this share is shared via RadHostClient (so XP PC functions as host for SMS), SMS can even play these files correctly.
The only problem I have is, I can't play files when connecting from PS2 with SMS to NAS directly via SMB. I can browse all specified folders, files are displayed correctly, but when I try to play a file, SMS either keeps on loading infinitely or simply says "Unsupported file format (press 'cross' to continue)...".
Network settings for SMS are fine, else I wouldn't be able to connect to and browse the NAS' share. The SMS.smb resides in the right place (mcX:/SMS/), I even created and edited the SMS.smb with Notepad2, encoding set to UNIX. I also tried "empty lines" when no PS2 name, user name and/or password were used in the SMS.smb. Additionaly, I excluded any entry exceeding 8 characters being source of the problem by different tests. If only the SMB share's host's IP and host name are specified in the SMS.smb, SMS connects (as expected) as guest to the NAS:
If user name and respective password are specified in the SMS.smb, SMS connects (as expected) as the respective user to the NAS:
So far, I've tried following any tutorial regarding SMS and network playback I could find via Google, including the "official one". NAS playback seems to be causing trouble for many (Linkstation) users, no solution was ever found.
The only thing I can imagine to be the source of problems is the "big" smb.conf of my NAS. You can view it here. If I change the user permissions from "deactivated" to "activated" via the Linkstation's web GUI in some share, e.g. "download"
the only thing in the smb.conf that changes are lines 74-75:
If you've got any idea what else I could try, please let me know. I'd like to gather other people's opinions befory I try adding a script to the Linkstation changing the "security = " in the smb.conf from "share" to "user" every time it boots or even changing the firmware to FreeLink, using a minimal smb.conf.
Thanks in advance!
