Okay, so I've got what I guess is a pretty common problem, but I thought I'd let you know my specifics so that maybe I can get a more direct answer.
The problem is; when I try to stream video files to SMS via RadHostClient, the files stutter/freeze.
Okay, so, here's my configuration:
PC with Windows Vista x64 SP1 running Rad Host Client 1.8a
NetGear DG834 Router (4-port ADSL modem/router with wireless)
SCPH-77002 Slim PS2 running FMCB and SMS 2.9r2
I have added an exception in the Windows firewall for RadHostClient and am running no other firewall software.
I start SMS up with the "auto-start network" feature turned on, THEN I run Rad Host Client 1.8a on my PC and the shares show up on the PS2.
I then try to run a .avi encoded with XviD. First SMS says "Loading indices" which takes many seconds, much longer than playing something straight from USB. Then, it says "Buffering AVI file", which also takes much longer than usual. Then I'm presented with the spinning red circle which stays there for a few more seconds. Finally, the file starts to stream. However within seconds it stutters badly.
Does anybody know of any solution to this problem? Thanks in advance,
I'd say its a router firewall issue, not a windows firewall issue, chances are both are enabled..

Radhost uses the remote TCP port 18193 on the PS2 side..
You could check this port is open on your firewall, or set up port forwarding TO this port from your router settings for the RADHOST application.
Also check your "flood control" is off on your router,
You could also try adding the PS2 to the DMZ if you have one, that'll take care of any "hardware firewall issues"
Finally check your ethernet cable, its the number one problem with data dropout, check the ends for damage, check the cable for "squashage", better still replace with another cable if you have one and see if that improves...
We've seen this issue before on the forum and i think they've all been solved by one of the above, usually the port forwarding one..
Okay, so, I figured it must have been my router, but after many attempts at forwarding ports etc, files still stuttered.
So, I hooked my other PC (Windows XP SP2) via a cross-over cable and tried that. It's performing no better, and that's with a direct connection! The files still stutter like crazy. I've used multiple cables that I know work fine PC-to-PC and the result is still the same.
I'm beginning to think that maybe RadHostClient 1.8a isn't compatible with SMS 2.9r2 OR that my particular model of PS2 has network issues, which I doubt. Can anybody shed some light on this issue? Cheers.
In your network card settings on the PC in vista is there anything else about flow or flood control or something similar you can change..

I'd say the chances are its bloody Vista rather than anything else...
SMS hates it when it comes to shared networking, so i wouldnt be surprised if Vistas firewall or networking causes issues for HOST too..
As I said, even on my XP SP2 system to my PS2 with a crossover cable, I still had the stuttering. However I finally managed to get sharing working using the Windows folder sharing and SMS.smb method, but then discovered this doesn't work on Vista yet
