yeah avi that aren't encoded in divx/xvid would usually show that white grayish screen and only play the sound, when you run them in sms.
...everything looks good in your GSpot's dumps. So, my answer is "I don't know" ...
Heh, no problem... it's no big deal to switch back to reality... though someday I hope to only use SMS because its a much better program (especially 1.6.. I can't gush enough about the video quality now! ). If you need a clip or whatever, I'd be glad to provide it. The smart thing would probably be to re-encode the episodes that weren't working of a favorite TV show to a better codec... I'm guessing the mp42 codec they are using is quite outdated....
@MDoggie: ...yes, it would be nice to take a look (otherwise it would be just a guessing), so, you can use "rapidshare.de" and PM to provide your clip ...
Just remember NOT to rencode when you cut the small video clip.
Use virtualdub and choose in video: "direct stream copy".

@raw15: ...well, I don't really think that it's a problem of resolution. Most probably it's just an "unimplemented" functionality (such as interlacing encoding or badly interleaved file etc.). No way for me alone to make support for everything ...
@MDoggie: ...thank you for your clips. The problem with them is that video codec of type 'mp42' is not supported by SMS (maybe "yet" )...
