I seem to think Divx 5x videos work better in ps2 reality
SMS wont play files with high resolutions (low bitrates)
PS2 reality pro seems to do this perfect maybe it decodes divx in a different way.

SMS is still better I almost every way!

@raw15: ...just check if your "problem" avi's are good interleaved. If they are not then it's known problem, otherwise it's a new one, and it would be nice to take a look at some fragment ...

I have some avi's , too, that play in reality , but won't play in SMS 1.6 (or any previous version). I'm no codec / bitrate expert... so, I wouldn't know what to look for in the reasons for this. The audio plays fine in SMS, but, the video just seems to flash grey and white.

On another note, 1.6 has made many of my .avi's look FANTASTIC now on my TV... before it had a scanline-y look... thanks soo much!

Yeah, follow xiaNaix link to download GSpot and check the videos that don't work on SMS to see if u can find some kind of pattern. Maybe that way we can find what the problem is...

Ok, here we go. Here's the GSpot info for the files that don't seem to play video on SMS 1.6:

It says the File Length is OK

    Stream Type: OpenDML AVI
    IMRR: 1.0
I/L: 1 vid frame (42 ms) Split: Yes

    Comments/MetaData: VirtualDUB build 13719

    Video Codec : mp42
    Name: S-Mpeg 4 version 2
    Runtime: 00:22:20 (32,121 fr)
    x:y: 480x360 (1.33:1) [=4:3]
    Bitrate: 610 kb/s
    FPS: 23.976
    QF: 0.147 bits/pixel

    Audio: 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
    Bitrate: 320 kb/s (160/ch, stereo) CBR
    FS: 44100 Hz

    Anything look fishy here?

I've had the same problem as MDoggie. I have a few avi's that play fine in Reality, but not SMS. They only play the sound in SMS and slowly flash grey and white (this is different from PAL/NTSC incompatibility flickering). Oddly enough one of the movies had messed up sound in Reality, but the sound played fine in SMS, I just couldn't see the video.
