SMS freezes –
Ok guys bear with me, I have a few movies on my verbatim 2gb USB stick. I have played an AVI file on SMS before, performed flawlessly too. Now, when i got to load up a clip, SMS gets stuck on 'detecting file format'. Also, i can play some clips, but its only audio coming through & not video, that problem might be the video format though.
I might consider converting all my video files to AVI, is there a particular format that SMS plays better? & Could someone please explain why SMS is freezing on me? could it be because there are too many files on the stick? All movies are shown in the list, so SMS recognises they are there.
I got the noobie package of FMCB 1.8b which already had SMS preloaded, im most certain its the latest version of SMS, & ULe
I'd say that xvid or divx are best and widest used format of AVI by my experience,
Please remember that AVI is only a container and can contain many different types of formats that AVI extension files WILL always show in the list, however that DOESN'T mean they will work well with SMS.
I personally find files encoded with the xvid codec and a single pass fixed or/average bandwith of around 1500kbs and AC3 stereo format sound work most reliably with the lastest versions of SMS and look and sound very good on a standard definition telly..
If you want something hi-def, dont go mental with the encoding rate or output a resolution greater than SMS's maximum allowed (i think thats 1080), remember that the PS2 isnt a very fast console and the more you try to force it to do, the more chance it will trip up or fail..
converted the video files to .divx & all is working fine now.
