have an option to not have the cd drive auto spin up on launch, my ps2 makes funny ass noises when a cd spins and is standing up
guys bookmark and idx support is essential i believe.
Also an option of showing details for a file, could be a smooth addition video, audio bitrate, etc.
i second therock's suggestion. ability to have an option to not start cdvd support.
could you make the sms read photos eg a jepg viewer.
maybe wmv support? and for those people who want m2k or whatever format that is, you can use virtualdub to make into a avi! no quality lost! just google! plus it doesnt take an hour or two, it will only take couple of mins. Because that format contains a divx file and 2 audio tracks (from what i know).
Xvid & Divx are considered to be out-dated, and i've yet to find a reliable way to convert from h264 to xvid/divx without running into worlds of problems.
Mpg is a pretty old format to be implementing. Adding ogg, aac, m4a audio & h264, wmv video codecs should be at the top of the list in my opinion.
And the reason for the lack of support for that format in commercial players is in part the same as the reason why it's unsuitable for a PS2 application.
That compression method demands *A LOT* more processing power during playback than normal XviD or DivX does. So commercial players with relatively weak processors can't handle it at decent movie resolutions, and the same goes for a PS2. This extreme demand for playback processing power simply makes that format quite unsuitable for the current generation of cheap playback hardware, including all PS2 models.
Sure it's old.Quote:

In the sense of being "Well established", "Reliable", and "Widely used".
Those are great advantages of the format, not disadvantages like you seem to think.
Trying to add every new fad of formats and CODECs that exists is a great way to waste the time of EEUG, so he won't have time for *real* improvements. Please try to understand that we are dependent on the leisure time of a single individual here.Quote:

I certainly would prefer him making real improvements dealing with normal MPG/AVI formats rather than adding dozens of other formats that I'll never use.
