SMS can't enter folders on data DVD
SMS can't enter folders on data DVD –
first of all: wow... sms rocks...
second... when i hit circle over a folder, it says "reading media", the dvd spins for a while, and then i am sent back to the root folder...
is support for folders on DVD's not implemented, or is there a problem with the discs i'm using? (i tried one of mine, recorded with K3B under Kubuntu 6.06 and one i borrowed from a friend, recorded on Nero under WinXP)
I am using the CD image on the site (1.7 rev 4)
also, as a follow up, the cd is not saving the key mappings... so i have to browse to SMS every time... how do i fix that?
First off, I suggest upgrading to the latest version.
To address your main problem, use Cross to navigate folders and play media. The circle button is used to build an on-the-fly playlist of MP3s. The reason you are sent back to root is because no MP3s were found.
I don't understand what you mean by "key mappings".
boy do i feel stupid... thanks for the help.... about the cd, i mean the bootloader... the live cd page says it should save the key mappings, so if i assign square to launch sms, next time i boot the image i should be able to just press that button to launch sms, but for some reason the mappings are not being saved....
Saving settings requires a storage medium, and the normal one to use for such purposes with the PS2 is a memory card. But some programs want the user to create the folder to save settings in (eg: mc0:/SYS-CONF/), or to specify the storage path in some configuration menu. I'm not sure what program you're using, so it's hard to give specific advice.

my memory card is a third party one... could that be the problem?
create a folder called SYS-CONF on the mem card. that might work...
the alternative is to make yourself a new cd image that contains only sms if you dont plan on running anything else or upgrading SMS, uLaunch was included so that people could just copy the new SMS Version onto their memory card instead of making a new CD.
thanks! that fixed it... all i can sat to end this topic is that SMS rocks... i've tried it with files on data DVD's and on USB media, and both have worked flawlessly...
the only (very) minor issue i have left is that i can only use 1 disc at the time... if i want to swap a second disc i need to reboot the console... otherwise SMS just says "illegal disc" and doesn't read it... but i am thinking that it is probably an issue with my modchip...
