Got it. Thanks. I'm tracking outboard NAS specifically. Glad you got it working nonetheless.

I can see all my shares on my vista pc, but when I go to play or view anything it hangs at Detecting file format...
Arg. Nothings password protected and my ps3 sees my shares also, but plays fine.
This ps2 with sms seems poitless on a network if i cant play the files it sees. avi, mp3, mpg, mp4, etc *all* ~ whateva i play or view it hangs.

I dont think SMS has ever played nicely with Vista when it comes to samba sharing, it was fine with XP and seems fine with Windows 7, but i havent read one thread that was Vista and SMS related where a smb solution was ever found..

You can use Radhost client instead of a samba share, that WILL work..

I have Vista, and I've used it with FTP and Radhost Client. I actually prefer Radhost because it's easier to use. I haven't tried samba, so I can't comment on it.

Is there a way to force SMS to load external USBD.irx?
I know there was, but this doesn't seem to work for me putting in mc0:/Boot/ etc. etc.

Don't know if it still works, but SMS most likely won't check the BOOT folder anyways. Try putting the USBD.IRX in SMS or SYS-CONF folder, which should be the default places for drivers.

Just so you know, the "USB mass storage driver" is not USBD.IRX...

USBD.IRX is the generic interface for basic communication with devices on a USB bus.
But it has absolutely nothing to do with the higher-level filesystem usage of a mass storage driver.

The mass storage driver uses the USBD.IRX driver in order to communicate with the hardware, so either of these drivers can be responsible for changed compatibility. But if it was only the mass storage driver that was replaced, then using an external USBD.IRX has no chance of helping restore compatibility.

I'm not sure if it still is possible to use external mass storage drivers with SMS, but if it is then you probably need to use one of the old "USB_mass.IRX" drivers for it. And of course you need to double-check the precise filename to be used (upper/lower case etc). This is the kind of thing on which I would prefer a statement by EEUG himself, since few others can have the necessary insight into SMS internals. (I know I don't...)

    Best regards: dlanor
