    hello.
I have re-encode some of wmv vids to xvid format with "River Past Video Cleaner Pro" and it could play very well with "Windows Media player" and "Media player classic" on my pc.
While when I tried to play this on ps2 with sms player, the playback is too badly unstable to see.(repeating stop awhile then play every a few seconds.)
I changed Auto mode to NTSC in "TV systems setting" and auto to random figure in "synch parameter setting" of "advanced settings" in "SMS player configure window" but It fails to fix.

And After surfing through on google, I happened to find out that enabling GMC, QPEL, Packed Bitstream option in xvid encoding process is like to be real problem when re-encode Vid files is played on standalone player.
so I set "profile@level setting" of "xvid encode configuration" in "River Past Video Cleaner Pro" to portable and remove all checkmark(adaptive quantization,Interlaced encoding, quarter pixel B-vops, global motion compensation) then start to re-encode new xvid file again.
    but It also fail.

Lastly,I change original framerate(23.97) to 29.97 because I think if there is more framerate,It would make smooth playback.
But my last ditch bring me no success..

Is it really impossible to convert wmv to xvid vids which have flawless playback on SMS Player or Am I some wrong with xvid encoding process?
and I attached my own capture of Gspot and River Past Video Cleaner Pro for some clue.

    Gspot

    Video Cleaner Pro

I'm so sorry for my weird English which may cause some misunderstand.
and it would much appreciated if anyone help me for solving this problem

You should look here Good Software to convert DVD's to AVI for SMS.
The infos about avidemux also apply for X to avi converting.

I tried to avidemux but, when I open wmv file for preparing re-encode process,I get below error message.

"No audio decoder found for this file
Save (A+V) will generate bad AVI. Save audio will work."

Audio stream for this wmv file seems to be encoded by Windows Media Audio 9 Professional.
Is there any way to add "audio decoder for WMA9 pro" to avidemux?

Export the audio file "as is" and convert it with the free version of Switch Audio Converter Software to mp3. Set the encoding options for mp3 to constant bitrate and choose "Stereo" instead of "Joint Stereo".

The software is very quick in converting audio files.

The resulting mp3 and can be set as Maintrack in audio menu by choosing "External MP3".

Now set your preferences for video and audio as normal and choose "Save" and the file will be converted correctly with working audio.

I doubt that there would be an easy way to implement "wma" by just dropping in an dll or something else. Maybe it will be implemented in future versions.

Until it's not integrated i stick with external encoders for some audio formats since it's faster then trying to get it implemented.

Since you said you have just a few files to convert the extra minutes wouldn't hurt since it is a fast process if you have modern hardware.

Maybe you should check avidemux forums about "wma" encoding or other things you may be interested.

and I selected LAME MP3 for encoder option in audio tab, of course I set original value or leave as it is for framerate, sampling rate, aspect ratio.but I got above error message again..
I even tried to re-encode in bitrate-based,quality-based,two-pass mode, but I get same error message and won't succeed to re-encode to xvid vid file till now .
Would you show me your setting values for the whole option of video and audio tab?

Mediacoder is no good choice without in-depth knowledge of the program, medicodecs and container formats. Mediacoder don't complain about incorrect settings for audio in combination with video and desired container format. So Mediacoder is a try and error software to find the settings it will encode correct. Maybe it can't decode the input file correctly which happened often to me when using mediacoder so i quitted using it.

http://www.nch.com.au/switch/index.html Use the free version of "switch" for the audio encoding only and perform the audio and video encoding with avidemux as described in my last post.

My own method for converting WMV (or most other video formats) to standard DivX or XviD AVI format is to use a combination of VirtualDub, AviSynth, and FFDShow.

VirtualDub is an excellent video encoder/recoder/editing program and is 100% Freeware.
But it has a serious limitation in supporting only AVI containers fully (+partial support for MPG)

AviSynth is an input filter application that through AVS scripts can make any video format accessible to programs like VirtualDub as if the video used a normal AVI container, but with non-packed video and audio, provided that the encoding formats of the real video file have normal DirectShow support installed on the computer.

FFDShow adds normal DirectShow support for nearly all existing video formats and containers. This allows AviSynth to handle those formats, which in turn allows VirtualDub to access those videos through AVS scripts (normally a single-line text file, easily made).

One exception is the MKV format, for which you would also need the "Haali Media Splitter", since FFDShow can not handle MKV files properly on its own.

Armed with all of the above, there are almost no video files in existence that can not be converted to standard AVI format. And since it is done through VirtualDub the user can control virtually everything you might think of in the new encoding. (Cropping, rescaling, advanced filtering, you name it...)

All of the above is available for download as 100% Freeware.
Just google for it and you will find all you need.

Avidemux provide support for many formats without the need for FFDshow or other DirectShow filter. That's the reason i prefer it over other programs. Also you can copy Avidemux to a usb device and take it with you and have everywhere your encoding software with you without the need to install additional fillters on the machine you are using it while not at your own PC.

I personally use AlltoAVI for this type of conversion. It accepts most files, including MKV and MPEG, so try it out. I haven't tried it for stuff I've compiled on WMMaker, but you can test it out and report your results.

Maybe I'll try it later myself and report myself.
