Can someone please tell me whatthe best type of files are to play on SMS Player?

I have tried again and again but I get video without audio or the video freezes at start.

I know xvid works but what is the best audio type and what is the easiest way to format it I use nero vision or Sony Vegas or Riverpast cleaner still nothing.

i use a simple freeware program called virtualdub. supported formats for video in SMS are currently either divx or xvid, and the audio is MP3, or AC3.

sometimes running a non working AVI thru virtualdub on direct stream copy (ie, rips the audio and video out, and re-joins them unchanged in a new file) will fix some AVI sync issues too.

if your audio is not a supported format but your video works, then run virtualdub, open your video file, and put video on direct stream copy, and audio on full processing mode. then set the audio codec to MP3, and save as AVI to a new file.

@lallallla: ...check "S/PDIF - Dolby Digital" setting in SMS Menu -> Player Settings. If it's ON then use optical cable and external AC3 decoder for sound. Otherwise turn it OFF and it should work. Otherwise share the clip (or part of it) somewhere, so I'll be able to check it...

    Hi.
    I have similar Problems.
I have no Sound and the video plays a bit too fast. Downloaded Xvids work, only vids which I encoded by myself doesn't.

    I attached a GSpot screenshot .

I also tried divx, but had quite the same results.

The reason you don't get sound is because you never encoded the sound. According to that screenshot the sound is just in raw PCM format, which is not supported by SMS. And SMS depends on the sound for synchronization of the video data, so without a supported sound format the video is just played at max speed. So both your problems are due to an unsuitable audio format.

Next time you reencode a video, remember to set up not only the video encoding but also the audio encoding. I suggest using MP3 with CBR 128kbps, as this always gives perfect results in SMS for me.

    Best regards: dlanor
