quality of display using SMS –
hi i would like to know know how the quality of playing a divx file on the ps2 HD using SMS compared to playing the divx file on the laptop and connecting the laptop to my 47" HD Screen via s-video cable
thanx you for your time
either the same, or better, depending on the laptop.
for me, it is the same as playing the divx on my DVD player. (my DVD player is also divx/xvid player)
thats good to hear because im looking forward to using sms
i just need to know how to use sms to create a partion on the HDD and copy the divx files from the dummy dvd into the partition. i've read in the readme that you can copy a file to the "current partition", but don't know what this is?
Thanx again for all your help
You should probably avoid the copy to HDD function in SMS right now as it is new and still under development. As there is no funtion in SMS to create a partition, you're going to need another utility anyways. Check out uLaunchELF which is the best choice for managing files on your PS2. It works nicely together with SMS as you can swap between them without rebooting.
Note that uLauchELF cannot yet read from the dummy video-DVD format like SMS. So if you don't have a modchip (to load disks) then your copying ability with uLaunchELF will be restricted to a Network PC or a USB drive.
in the "how-to" thread it says:
i've seen in other threads that people had to mount or unmount partitions, do i need to do this for the method described above
How to copy movies from HOST: to HDD using uLaunchelf:
To use this feature you need a PC with a NIC and PS2 Network Adapter, If you want to connect them directly, you will need a crossover UTP cable.
1-Exec uLaunchelf and select FileBrowser and in the menu select HOST: wait about 10-12 seconds and ".." will appear.
2-In PC exec from CMD: "ps2client.exe -h 192.168.0.10 listen" and will work for all files&folders that you have in ps2client directory
3-Refresh PS2 screen pressing Triangle and then enter to HOST: again (maybe you need to repeat this process) until files&folders appear
4-To copy files do it in the same way as above (Copy from cdfs: to HDD)
No. That problem only relates to the use of HDD partitions in the FTP server. When you use the uLaunchELF FileBrowser instead, all mounting and unmounting of HDD partitions is handled automatically.

Can you please say how you can swap between ULE and SMS without rebooting ? I did not know you can do that.

That's right. The default behaviour is for SMS to exit to the PS2 Browser, but you can change that to MC0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF (other locations on the MC are also possible by editing the language file). Starting SMS from LaunchELF should be obvious.
...I swapped in a SVCD of "Fantasia" at the file menu... The video/sound/framerate on the DivX-AVI seem fine so far :-)
