Online instructions are not specific..Please help

I read the online manual, over and over. I still cant figure out how to get the elf file for launchelf on the ps2, i cant figure out how to get anything done except plug my network cable (via router switch..i have that set) into the back of my slim ps2. So, what do i do, step by step for getting sms to boot up?

All it says is this, they assume that we know how to do everything:

"Now copy this file to your memory card (memory card 0). The recommended (and probably easiest) way to copy the ELF file to your PS2 is using FTP."

"Turn on your PS2 and activate your exploit/modchip; first time you use uLaunchELF, it will look something like this:"

I dont know how to get do this step because they havent explained it.

Please just start me off from scratch, i have my router plugged into my slim ps2, in the back.

I plugged my cross over cable into my slim ps2...I dont know how to find out the ip address of the ps2 to ping it, and its not showing up in my network places. Can someone please help me?

And im still not clear on how to put an ftp server on the ps2. I know i need the elf file, and the exploit.

Some sites told me that the slim ps2 doesnt have the independence exploit, but there are other ways..but didnt say what they were.

This forum and the Manual are for SMS, that's why nothing else is explained, that kind of information is out of scope of the User Manual, u'll need to search for other guides/tutorials on that kind of information.

The PS2 hasn't got any IP Address and it's not even recognized in ur network, u need to be running FTP/uLaunchELF for example to attribute an IP address to the PS2 and it still won't be recognized in Windows, u'll need a special tool to comunicate with it (FTP client for example). Oh, and u probably need a straight network cable, not a crossover (because u're using a router, not a direct connection between PC-PS2).

It's strange that u have 58 posts and u don't know how to run homebrew in ur console, u'll need a modchip or SwapMagic (since slim PS2 doesn't support the exploit). U can probably find lots of guides on the internet (even here in ps2-scene), so I'm not going into details.

@mp-a: that wasn't really cool to go off like that, Furatudo did helped you out, told you what you needed to do to get it to working. you cant do anything with it without swap magic which will boot off ELFs (which is what i have) thru USB or get mod-chip. theres nothing more can be do with it.

dude i dont know why people are actin noob even their grown up, makin them stupid. (since he is grown man he should be able to do it, a 10 yrs old can do it. why 24 cant do it..)

dude here's the way u do it.
did u install mc exploit on ur ps2, if not thats ur big problem.
thats the first step to able to use sms, u need ulaunchelf to run sms..
go first install it, then transfer the sms.elf using usb drive to ur mc..
theres a a lot thread here that talks about mc exploit go read them, cus alot of noobs whine and flooded the forums the same old topic MC EXPLOIT.
